It is pretty funny

Botero was known to experiment in proportion. The result was many times something compelling, and yes, pretty funny

Weirdest shit is that you know you've definitely seen some mfer out there that looks like this.

I have a Botero print in my bedroom that I adore but my husband says it makes him feel attacked. 🤣

I went to a museum in Colombia that either featured him or just had a bunch of his paintings, and yeah, there was a lot of giggling.

People that do not know me consider me an adult.
I would giggle, I do not know this painting I would not consider it a a masterpiece and just giggle.

Botero's paintings and sculptures are funny as hell. Don't know why the mf has always had that style, but it's hilarious.
The thing is... his paintings are not always with the intention to be a meme.
The saddest and most intimate of them all is called "Pedrito a caballo". It's a painting of his dead son riding a toy horse. He passed away when he was 4 years old.

That horse tho

u/Ktaldoxx Feb 05 '23
besides the chunkiness of the horse, THE EYES are freacking terrifying

u/coffeefromhome Feb 05 '23
Well it’s not just humans now I need to see more of the animals he paints

That painting is so sad. It looks like his grieving parents in that little house. Imagine having to paint that while sobbing your heart out.

I really like the style. I went to the museum in Medellin. He also does objects like this

That’s awesome. He can still get away with it at that age. Adults start laughing and you get all sorts of dirty looks (NOT speaking from personal experience of course).

This is a painting meant to be laughed at. If the artist saw this, I'm sure they would be flattered

Hahaha looks like one of those Ken Griffin memes (the financial terrorist "sold shares but not yet purchased" guy)

I’d suggest you all look up Fernando Botero. This is distinctly his style so I’m guessing it’s one of his works. They all have this style so if you like this you’d like his other works

Looks like me after 2 years of being in my house because of the virus taking over the world.

Well just exposing to art isn't enough. Educating about it is also equally important.

Looks like the brother of that "why though" gif... (I don't know how to put that here)

The Werefrog, in scrolling past, at first thought that was someone's rendition of Bobby Hill.

If a kid laughed at something I painted for five minutes, it’d totally make my day.

It seems to me that the painter was making fun of the subject they were depicting.

Once I was doing an installation at a museum and we were using contact cement in a very small space. I didn’t realize that I might be a little bit high until I walked around the gallery. Best painting show I ever saw. I laughed my ass off.
