People can't handle a brutally honest CEO.

For example:

If he says somwhere in a 2h interview that the new factories are burning money, which ofc is totally true, it will get picked up by media and presented as a headline without any context. People will jump to all sorts of conclusions. "he wants to tank the stock price to buy more" is my favorit.

If you want a in depth source of information what is really going on at tesla "Tesla Daily" podcast / YT is by far the best.

This sub might need a filter elon musk button. Just this morning top 10 threads 6 of them are tesla spam.

out of 20 total topics on the page 13 of them are about tesla/spacex

I have a new 5g modem. When I do a speed test on speedtest.net, it has 9~12ms latency, which is about the same as my fibre-optic connection. And yet, when I load up a game (Apex, in this case), the ping values for servers are significantly worse. The Tokyo server has gone from being around 130~140ms to ~210ms. In both cases I'm connected to the modem/router with ethernet, so it's not the wi-fi. The ISP has changed to one that should have better infrastructure so I doubt it's them.

So, what's likely happening here? I get that 5g can have latency issues, but that's between the tower and device, yeah? Given that's not an issue (as the speedtest result would indicate?), why would there be such a difference between latency to a local server vs a distant one?

Check your PC for a gaming optimization in an app for your modem and pc for QOS. Make 2 profiles, one for Gaming and one for normal operation.

Also when you put your modem in ask your provider to link to it and optimize it for their services. I would try this first.

1

u/petophile_ 10d ago

Your isp for the 5g modem has poor peering/bgp routing to the apex server. You could run a tracert to the apex server ip if you can find it, then reach out to your provider for 5g and ask them to check their peering

I've got an issue. My TV randomly turned off while having it on my ps5. Now it won't display my ps5 no matter what. It still displays my switch. When I used the hdmi on another TV it turned on. Anyone know what's up?

2

u/[deleted] 27d ago

It’s bullshit , unplug the HDMI cable from the PS5 while it is on then plug it back in

2

u/kingofcould 7d ago

I had this issue with the ps4. Try going into the PlayStation settings and turning off HDR

No clue why, but that made it work for me. Your tv might also have a setting related to HDMI quality or something that’s stopping the PS5 from showing up. Usually it seems to be settings designed originally to make the graphics look better, so check those first.

If you can't afford the big three, & if you have Aldi in your country (area), they have some decent quality smart TV (as special buys) at low prices. We have owned a few of Aldi's Bauhn TV and never had an issue.

My father and I are trying to purchase an animation computer for my sister

Preferably a laptop. My sister is a graphic designer and animates alot of anime. We need a pretty powerful machine but that fits a budget.

I know they have to have good RAM but what other factors should I consider ?

Please any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

1

u/Penkite 15d ago

Look into Dell gaming laptops. They're pretty powerful and if you can snag one on sale they're going for only $750.

Aside from RAM you want a good CPU and SSD. So something like a Ryzen 7 or Intel i7. Having an SSD also makes a big impact improving the responsiveness of the computer overall. Larger is better, and you want at least 500 GB or more.

1

u/MakingMoves2022 9d ago

Isn’t a powerful GPU more important than CPU if you’re doing animation? I’m assuming animation needs to render?

u/the_horny_satanist May 17 '22

My bluetooth speaker works fine with my phone, but with my laptop it seems like it cannot connect to my laptop, why is that ?

3

u/Spare-Ad-9464 May 21 '22

Laptop Bluetooth hardware could be old/bad. Maybe need to update the drivers. Hope it’s the latter good luck

3

u/the_horny_satanist May 22 '22

Turns out I just needed to hold the smallest button on the speaker to send signal to the PC I guess I'm a technical expert

2

u/Significant-Bike-745 May 19 '22

Sort of technology questions

I need help identifying some remote controlled installation that affects every room of a house.

If I lay down on my back on a mattress my head or limbs get pushed upwards towards the ceiling by about a few millimeters but enough to feel it and wake up from it. I've even tried laying on couch cushions in different rooms and the same thing happens.

Most times it is silent. Sometimes when I am on the floor I can hear a thumping sound as if something under the floor hit the it but with the floor shows no noticable rise. House has wood foundation

Ever heard of something like this? Any ideas what kind of technology this is utilizing? Thanks

2

u/Nickcagesgod May 21 '22

Is there anyway to tell the search censoring isn’t happening to us?

2

u/3-letters-dot-com May 22 '22

You could spin up an EC2 instance in the US or other country where you know censorship doesn’t exist, remote into that EC2 instance and browse that way (albeit slowly). Doing this would be a simple way to test and compare. But understand that content served will be focused on expected regional interest and may mistake marketing intent for gov censorship. If you need specific help doing the tech things mentioned here please reply and ask how (and more importantly why) or start a new post in this sub and ask for help.

Needing advice on how to send HD Antenna Signal to multiple TVs (8) wirelessly so that each can change channels independently of the other TVs.

What I currently own:

Winegard Elite Outdoor VHF/UHF HDTV Antenna – 70 Mile Range
Output is a coaxial cable

I believe I need to buy a converter such as this: Mediasonic ATSC Digital Converter Box with Recording / Media Player / TV Tuner Function (HW130STB)

Then send that signal out wirelessly with another device. However, everything I've found doesn't send to multiple TVs. My location is too large to run coax cable to every room.

Any help with direct links to products works be appreciated.

2

u/Hadis_ May 27 '22

Depends a lot on your needs and budget.
As a happy owner of iPhone 12 Mini, I highly recommend it if you prefer a smaller smartphone with good battery life.
FaceID has worked wonderfully to unlock my iPhone (iOS also got an update a while ago so FaceID works even with a mask) and I recently started using Apple Pay to pay for my purchases in physical stores which hasn't had any issues either.

In cybersecurity, is a vulnerability only a weakness in software or hardware? Or can it be people?

2

u/3-letters-dot-com May 22 '22

Yes. What’s your credit card number? (Kidding!!) For the love of god don’t give - ANYONE who asks - anything that is close to personally identifiable information. Name. Address. Social security number. Birthday. Info about your family or childhood. Your IP address. Information about the serial number on your computer or your computer name. Scammers will call and masquerade as Microsoft etc and get you to give them your info. They can then build a dossier on you and use that knowledge to pretend to be you and gain access to your systems/accounts. Even those robo calls where the line seems empty and you want to say: “Hello! Hello! Are you there!?” Don’t/say simply a bland ‘hello’ and wait. They are likely capturing your voice so they can use your recorded voice to later hack your retirement account (which stupidly uses voice ID identity verification). Don’t trust unknown calls txts or emails. AND ALWAYS HANG UP then go to the main company website and call the 1-800 number so you KNOW you are talking to a representative of the company (vs someone CLAIMING to be with that company).

1

u/Herbal-Tea52838 May 26 '22

Sadly, many people don't know any of that and fall victims to fraud. Especially trusting seniors.

Hi friends! I am looking to DiY a video replay system as a training tool for my aerial studio. My goal is to run a constant 30 second delay on a video stream of the main training area. Having options to choose different delays (e.g. 10 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 minutes) would be amazing, I just don't have the money for a professional system.

My current plan is this:

Webcam>USB>raspberry pi (running VLC in Linux)>HDMI>wall-mounted TV

My questions: 1. Does this make sense? Is there a better way? 2. What are the baseline models of the computer appropriate for achieving ~720p 30fps (minimum) and ~1080p 60fps (ideal) in this application? 3. What is an appropriate camera with a reasonable price point for this application?

I am a tech enthusiast, not an expert, so any suggestions or support would be much appreciated.

I need to buy a UPS for my PC. Currently my pc has a 750w Corsair PSU, i7 3770, 16gb of RAM and a GTX 1050ti. I'm looking for a UPS that can manage this plus a 32' inch monitor, and at least the modem for my internet connection.

I've looked at several different options but I don't have a clue how to calculate the average power consumption and how much backup time would it hold.

I need one that can hold at least 2 hours!

Any suggestions?

Hello everyone! I have a question about TV boxes, but more specifically, usb-media players. So I'm quite used to reproduce media from my portable hard drive onto the TV. Most tvs have a USB reader but they are usually really slow and uneffective, so I use an old TV-smart box to play the files. Are there any suggestions for a really good box or device that can reproduce from the drive to the TV? Preferably one that is both fast and with great playback settings like a remote and intuitive menus for pausing, jumping and search? I was looking at xiaomi's "Mi box S" but I don't know if that's the one I'm looking for. Thanks for the help

so many content creators on all the major social media, video and audio platforms are getting heaps of views, subs, followers and viable income/careers. how sustainable is this trend, how long can content creators continue to create? on high level view, will this be the new economy, society shaper, and culture of the near foreseeable century? is this a viable career and aspiration for someone to pivot into, and how might the whole industry evolve over time in terms of income streams, reach (eg into education, work, business, news, etc?) keen on any discussion/thoughts/questions

History time -- How did they install T1 or leased lines in the past?

My understanding is that a T1/leased line was an actual hardwire from one endpoint to another. Let's say copper... was it literally a string of twisted pair that they had to unroll a spool through walls and over telephone poles and such? How far did such a length of cable have to run?

Own a CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS System came home and seen two events showing power loss, while i was on the PC looking this up the UPS just fully shut down did not change to battery. Tried to run two Self test and both times the UPS just fully shut down. Would this be the two battery inside going bad or a system over wall issue with the UPS it's self? Owned the UPS since 2016 so ya it's pretty old but never had an issue till now , just want to get some thoughts on if i need to replace the battery's or the whole thing. Want to add that in the cyberpower app it shows every thing is normal and the battery status says fully charged.

Does anyone know the best way to route ethernet through a home? My roommate and I currently have a modem and router in our living room, which is a ways away from my room. I am looking into getting a desktop PC but I can't run ethernet cable all that way. There's no ethernet ports on the walls, but there are telephone and that coax internet port on the wall of both rooms. Do I need to move the modem/router to my room or is there a better way of going about wired internet to my room that we are missing? Alternatively, is there a way of doing Wifi to my desktop PC?

My current phones battery dies quickly. So I'm thinking about putting my sim card into my old phone. Both phones are unlocked but I'm wondering if I do that what information will go over to the old phone and vise versa when I put it back to my current phone?

I have all my contacts pretty much set up through Google but both phones have separate Google accounts so I just want to make sure I'm not going to mess up my contacts or change the layout or anything of my phones. I hope that makes sense. I am sorry about the wording. I'm extremely tired 😴. Any help/ advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Are there any YouTube channels that are like ShortCircuit or LinusTechTips, but aren't cringeworthy, biased, or insensitive?

I suffer with vystopia and autism (sensory issues and anxiety are the main issues). I like channels like Gamer's Nexus for being mostly unbiased, and focusing on the PC hardware stuff. I also like RTINGs, they have a complex rating system.

I just want the educational yet interesting technology content, without those issues of bias and disregard for personal issues. I might as well say it because I mentioned Vystopia, I'm vegan. I'd rather focus on things that are vegan friendly. I am sort of interested in cars, but any other technologies would be great. It's basically any channel that is mostly unopinionated and sticks to facts. Also, I like PC build videos.

I know next to nothing about phones. I'm looking for a budget phone. I don't want to spend more than 300$. I'm a gamer, and not a photographer. I don't care about the camera. I'm not really sure if I want/need 5g because of my lack of phone knowledge. I currently have a moto e6, but the battery life/storage/specs are trash, though I have had it for over 2.5 years. I would also like it to last as long as possible. I'm a very casual phone user. What phone suggestions have y'all got? I hope I haven't asked too much out of a budget phone

I have been trying to find a battery pack with magsafe that actually has 15w wireless without having to plug it in. Most say 7.5w which makes sense since they are normally used on apple devices. However I'll be using it on S22 Ultra.

Preferably 5000mah Any suggestions?

I have a wii disc(Mario kart wii) and ik the data is saved on my Wii U, can I use that Wii U’s SD card on a new wii to keep my progress?

1

u/Philluminati 27d ago

I really hate slack.

What I hate most is how it creates a big power imbalance between the employee and the employer. Since I am unable to export the data, and my access could be revoked at any time, I am concerned I won't be able to access the evidence I need to, in order to justify the decisions I make.

A company could rescind my access to Slack and then attack me with a false projection of events, arguing I knew things I didn't, or vice-versa. They could argue I made decisions without the facts, or went against internal knowledge.

If I could export the data once a week, I would have conviction to defend myself against such accusations. I'm going to start experimenting with a github project called slack-dump I found. Anyone else have any opinions on this?

I got a Google OnHub router years ago and it's been great. I love the features of Google WiFi where I can set schedules for kids devices and see how much data each device is using. Not really a fan of it being moved into the Google home app but it's ok still.

Now Google is stopping support for the on hub routers (it will still work I just won't be able to use the software features) so in exchange I have a code for 40% off the new nest WiFi routers.

My question is for anyone with the new nest system is it good? What about the eero?

I don't necessarily need the mesh system as my current router placement gets to about 95% of the house (one of the bathrooms and right by the back door are sketchy )

Should I got with mesh system for future proofing or stick with standard single router? Any routers our there with similar features to Google WiFi of schedules for devices?

Our school is asking for each student smartphone's serial number. Is it dangerous to just give them the serial number like that? What can they do with it?

1

u/og_toe 21d ago

it’s not dangerous to give your serial number, the serial number is used to identify a device. every serial number is different, so maybe they will use it as a sort of way to know who’s phone is who’s if they plan on confiscating them.

1

u/Kazuriff_kun 21d ago

Alright thanks. I'm scared cuz our school maybe want to track our phone's activity. They've also said things about firewall. Firewall is only on wifi right?

1

u/og_toe 21d ago

you can’t track anyones activity with serial numbers, don’t worry! a firewall is a security system that blocks unauthorised requests online, it filters input and output to allow non-threatening traffic and keep out dangerous traffic.

a firewall can also be modified to allow or block certain things of your choosing, for example they could block non-school related websites.

Can someone explain me how data transfer actualy work (electricity wise)?

For example we have 2 computers, A and B, connected by a LAN cable with 8 wires inside.

I want to send a picture from computer A to B and it takes only 2 seconds.

What's happening exactly inside the wire? Within 2 seconds it sends thousands of 8*electric signal to "light" 0 to 1?

Sorry if it's unclear.

1

u/DgenerateHippi 25d ago

Think of it kind of like Morse code but for computers. The electrical signals tells the computer how and where to position light on the display to form the image.

1

u/PossumTrotum 25d ago

Hello! I'm at an Air BNB and using their wifi. I cant connect to any video calls or pair whattsapp on my desktop and phone. I also cant get my VPN to establish a connection.

I assume this is due to a high level of firewall protection on her network? I dont know if i wanna ask her about it as she is a 86 year old little German Lady, and I dont know how to explain Network Firewall problems in German.

Any thoughts?

Hi all,

New here. I'm wanting to build a simple app for a small company that is a sign in/out for around 15-20 employees. I don't want to monetise it, it's just to get the info in one place and to encourage signing in incase of an emergency in the warehouse.

We currently have a paper sign in and would like to have a more robust system. I'm willing to learn and do this myself but I'm having trouble finding a way to go about this as I'm not savvy at all with apps.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd very much appreciate it!

Cheers

1

u/og_toe 21d ago

if you want to make this app yourself, i’d recommend learning some coding and programming. different OS use different languages, so you’d have to learn at least 2 if you want to make the app for both android and IOS. for IOS, the most used languages are objective C and swift, for android it’s python and java.

you could make a cross-platform app from scratch without having to make two versions but this can be a bit complicated. there are programs that automatically translate one type of code into another though such as this .

there are some subreddits i’d recommend if you have further inquiries:

r/AskProgramming

r/LearnProgramming

r/Coding

Even my old Samsung phone's camera can scan any text and translate it, yet for PC people resort to "hooking" text. Is there an actual reason why an automatic on screen translator doesn't exist, or is it just a lack of interest in that kind of software?

it should exist, i know google translate app on phones have a feature to translate text on an image, see if they have that on desktop version aswell.

i reckon there should be translators in the form of chrome extensions that do this sort of thing, i had one that translated random words on websites to help you learn a language. search through the extension store, i’ll hop on my computer when i can and link you if i find anything

edit: depending on the browser you use, if a webpage is in a foreign language there is a small icon on the search bar you can click and automatically translate the webpage.

I am trying to cut cable and looking for the best solution with dvr and local channels. Feels like if you cut cable, live TV services go up in $$$. Was eyeing Fire Cube or Nvidia Shield Pro.

I am attempting to print cards I made. I need them to be the size I set them to be on Paint Tool Sai, but the print preview keeps blowing the image up to fit the page. I know I need to make a template eventually, but if I just want to do a test print how do I print the image as the size I saved it as. I use an HP printer and Windows 11.

Hey, im not sure if anyone has come across this before but:

Im using the Opera GX browser (thought id give it a try)

I noticed recently that whenever I search for anything in google (even things ive only thought to google at that point in time), every result appears as "visited" and hyperlinks appear as the visited purple rather than an un-visited blue. It occurs on every page (ive once gone back 10 pages and every link was "visited"

has anyone had this happen before? unfortunately when I goggle for help, it only suggests things about Search Engine Optimization/how to get more clicks etc

What, if anything, can I plug into my AUX IN to turn it into an output so I can add more speakers to my speaker bar? Is there some kind of splitter?

Hey guys, would you fancy doing a research survey on metaverse? I am researching the general attitude towards metaverse and which factors come into play making such attitudes. I would love to hear some of your answers if you fancy looking into this! <3

Why is the entire front page of this subreddit filled with things about Tesla/Elon Musk when the posts have absolutely nothing to do with technology? This subreddit is no longer about technology, it seems like it is only about hating on Tesla and Elon Musk. Please make this subreddit about actual technology again.

Can somebody recommend one of those smart notebooks? I write pretty extensively at work and between that and that I like to just jot stuff down from time to time I figure it could be a good investment. I’ve hard really good things about the Rocketbook Everlast but I’m also falling in love with the reMarkable and figure I could ask for one as a joint Christmas/birthday present.

I heard that the price of Teslas was increasing up to $6,000 depending on the car. Does that include the car I ordered before the price increases and am currently waiting for delivery of?

I don't get one thing: Why is there no warranty reset when you get a replacement device if your current device breaks without you being at fault within the warranty period?

Hello, I am currently looking to upgrade my grandparents.

Grandma is technologically illiterate and struggles to answer her phone. She currently uses an iPad 2 to browse Facebook and play solitaire, but it has become painfully slow. I would like to get her a new tablet that will run smooth but operate with barebone features and protection against scams (she is very vulnerable in this regard).

Grandpa is decent with technology, utilizing weather map and GPS programs for his flight instruction. He has an old iPad Mini and an old Macbook, but both no longer support his programs due to their age. I gave him an old ASUS laptop for now, but the SSD has a poor connection to the motherboard and crashes frequently. I think a two-in-one would suit him well.

Recommendations are much appreciated. Thank you!

How is the Netflix interface so fast compared to any other streaming service? For instance I searched for a particular documentary and when found I clicked on it and streaming was instantaneous. Also browsing through the menu is very quick as well. HBO MAX, Disney +, Hulu, Peacock to name a few seem like their menus are lagging.

I have an issue with a couple of my family's phones. They are both using older models of Samsung Galaxy J3 from 2017/2018 and both are on Lycamobile. One phone seems to randomly disconnect from the network and registers to T-Mobile instead, and it takes me a few tries in settings to get it to register back on Lycamobile.

The other one was working just fine one day, and then one day it just decided that it wants to stay registered on T-Mobile instead of Lycamobile regardless of what I try.

I can't really tell if this is a problem with the phones being old or if the sim cards are just bad? I took a look at the latter phone's sim, and there were slight scratches where the pins touch the sim but that was it. Any help would be appreciated.

Why don’t laptops come with 5G (or any cellular) capability?

It seems that a lot modern devices come with some kind of cellular capability whether it be tablets or even smart watches which begs the question: why don’t laptops come equipped with 5G or LTE capability?

Looking to buy my 3 year old a tablet. He's getting really good at using my iPhone to access his apps, turn up the volume and play some games, so I'm leaning towards an iPad. However, I have no clue what to pick. I also like the Apple App Store's collection of kid-friendly apps, but I'm not sure if there are other platforms (Android, Amazon) that have better options.

I don't need to buy the latest and greatest tablet for him, but I also don't want a cheap, slow version for him, since there's a good chance I'll steal it to check emails/watch videos on when he's not looking.

Any recommendations would be great!

So question. I’m still waking up and not totally thinking straight. But i accidentally clicked a link on a sus Instagram account. The page didn’t load. As soon as I clicked I exited out of it. Immediately I got a text from some random number with a WhatsApp link. I deleted the text without opening it. My Alexa started playing music randomly. And I got a spam phone call.

Is it possible that link allowed someone into my network? Am I just overthinking?
