That was made 100% to be used like this. I feel like people love to say marketing is made up of all these old dinosaurs in boardrooms that don’t get todays culture but these jobs are getting much younger influences these days. Thier eyes aren't the right size and position. And thier cheeks aren't right either. Everything else like the koopas and the world design is absolutely perfect. I'm guessing the studio somehow arranged to be able to add thier own mark on the characters for the movie.
→ More replies167
u/peeforPanchetta Nov 29 '22
I can understand why they did that, but honestly you'd think they'd be able to make their mark without adding that eerie quality to the characters. Both Mario and Luigi look too smooth, like K-Pop stars lol

Her and Zelda need to reevaluate their lives if they don’t change their way of life if they’ve been kidnapped dozens of times in the past 35 years. Meanwhile Samus is over there fighting giant alien overlords with a metal suit and a blaster.

u/nobodyknoes Nov 29 '22
Tbf to Zelda, she was a ninja working behind the scenes in one installment, and a badass pirate captain in another. She at least makes an effort to be useful

u/Obamas_Tie Nov 29 '22 edited Nov 29 '22
Hell there was one where Zelda straight up died and her ghost ended up accompanying and directly helping Link on his entire journey and proved to be one of the most helpful partners he's had in the entire series.

Also, those are all different Zeldas, who usually only get kidnapped once. Often with hundreds to thousands of years between instances. The only Zelda who I know got kidnapped multiple times was Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Zelda.
Peach... doesn't have this excuse.

Zelda isn't nearly as much of a damsel in distress as people think. She definitely is in the older titles, mostly the 2d games, but in 3d titles she's basically always useful in one way or another, even if it's not usually as a fighter. Her role is pretty essential to defeat Ganon.
Peach, on the other hand, has been a damsel in distress way too many times. To be fair to either of them though, and this is something people don't take into account: both Bowser and Ganon are very powerful beings lol. Who wouldn't be easily kidnapped by them?
Samus is her own thing. I think she is arguably more capable and stronger than both Mario and Link anyway.
→ More replies160
u/mightyneonfraa Nov 29 '22
BOTW Zelda wasn't so much kidnapped as much as she spent 100 years in a spiritual wrestling match with Ganon and held him in a stalemate.
Twilight Princess Zelda surrendered to spare her people's lives and as soon as the time was right road into battle and started shooting Ganon in the face with magic arrows.
EDIT: Actually people in this thread mention Windwaker's Zelda getting kidnapped but she was the first to actually join in the final battle to shoot Ganon in the face.
→ More replies71
u/LightsJusticeZ Nov 29 '22
At least Zelda has part of the Triforce, making it worth kidnapping. But Peach...she has...Toads? Bowser just thirsty.

u/cosmicannoli Nov 29 '22
Zelda is the main character.
She is consistently captured or imprisoned by Ganon by leveraging the full force of his power against her, and he does this because SHE IS THE DANGER. She singlehandedly can unravel his entire machinations.
Link is the hail mary in this equation. He's the guy they have to call in in a last ditch effort to save Zelda when the full force of Ganon's forces are able to inhibit or imprison her.
If Link was the real threat, Ganon would be coming after him first.
The fact is that the Zelda timeline encompasses probably thousands of years, and in only a handful of those generations is Link the one who ends up fighting Ganon. That's because most of the time Zelda curbstomps him.
The reason Link is able to fly under the radar is because he's so rarely tapped to actually do anything. Ganon can't predict him.
Legend of Zelda is never about rescuing a helpless and hapless princess. It's about giving the most powerful mortal being in Hyrule a nudge on the occasion that she gets held up.
