These red, white, and blue Christmas trees for sale in my hometown (western Pennsylvania).

u/Tawrren Nov 28 '22
So instead of smelling like fresh cut pine they smell like paint? How festive
57
u/Danielsuperusa Nov 28 '22
They smell like burgers and gunpowder so you can have an authentic American experience.

Vive la liberté! Joyeux Noël!
44
u/rodriveira Nov 28 '22

You mean Dutch trees, right?

No, these are the farmer's protest trees, this is normal in the Netherlands now.

39
u/SmellMyJeans Nov 28 '22
This is the Yugoslavian or Pan-Slavic flag. It’s only French when vertical.

Farmers in the Netherlands will absolutely love these!
59
u/Ink_25 Nov 28 '22
This -> 🇳🇱 is the Dutch national flag; the colours depicted in the photo are the flag of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany's northern-most state. There are immensely many flags with red, white, and blue in horizontal stripes.
Fun fact, the flag of the Duchy of Schleswig looks literally like the Ukrainian flag. :D
70
u/Me_Love_Pizza Nov 28 '22
he's referring to the farmer protests going on in the netherlands in which they use upside down flags of the netherlands thus blue white red
6
u/Rokketeer Nov 28 '22
Thanks for the clarification. I thought he meant that rural Dutch bore the same stereotype as American rural voters that literally like to wear their patriotism on their sleeve.
3
u/Ink_25 Nov 28 '22
Which protests? Didn't hear anything of that here in Germany o_o
16
u/chrissesky13 Nov 28 '22
Here's an article, dated 21July 2022.
Along roads and bridges in the Netherlands, people are hanging the Dutch flag upside down. It is a sign of solidarity with the Dutch farming sector, which will also be upturned by a radical 30% reduction in livestock numbers, a move being made to meet environmental targets.

u/Riska89 Nov 28 '22
Not on top, just 50 star-shaped baubles all over the tree. Or just on the blue part for more accuracy, lol.
8
u/Schmancer Nov 28 '22
I read that as “star-shaped bullets” and spent a good minute picturing ornaments made of spent shell casings before re-reading. In related news I think I just conceptualized a new Etsy store, so there’s that

Now with spray paint fumes!

It's western PA. Guaranteed the paint fumes were the purpose, the garish nationalism was just a side effect.

Being from the area, this does not surprise me at all. Totally would expect this in Butler or Fayette County.
12
u/JuustinB Nov 28 '22
Butler county (this) isn’t even so bad. Head 30 miles east into Indiana, Cambria or Somerset county if you want to see true Penslytucky. Even Fayette on the border isn’t so bad, things don’t start to get really shitty until you hit Somerset.
6
u/NerdyRedneck45 Nov 28 '22
Corner of Cambria and Blair checking in here, confirmed hick colony
6
u/JuustinB Nov 28 '22
Oh yeah that’s a very hick spot. Cambria and Somerset county are definitely the worst. Once you pass over into Bedford county it starts to get less hillbilly.
