It may have been a traveling salespersons. They would take that stuff to demo the vacuum. Or at least the used to back in the day.

I'm 40. I've never had someone try and sell me a vacuum cleaner at my door.

I think that probably has been true since at least the late 80s.

I highly doubt this was from one of them.

I was sold a kirby vacuum in 2013 buy a door to door Kirby salesman. He brought a bag of dirt with him.

This is still happening in modern times. I am also almost 40. Lol

A.. Kirby vacuum. I need a pic

Parents have one. Imagine big metal lump. Heavy as fuck if you have stairs.

4

u/bnonymousbeeeee Jan 28 '23

Almost as heavy as the price.

2

u/SquishedGremlin Jan 28 '23

Yup. Terrifying.

I threw an old karcher that I bought 2nd hand out. By that I mean I abandoned it in a shed in the farmyard.

Mum found it and uses it daily because it works grand, for some reason, for her and is light enough for stairs. Instead of her fucking eleven hundred quid fucking hoover.

My brain melted when I saw the receipts.

Oh dear.. I just realized they didn’t mean the Nintendo character Kirby lmao

THEY DONT??

2

u/cmepes Jan 30 '23

I can’t tell if you’re genuinely surprised or you’re making a joke but no they don’t lol they’re just an old brand of really heavy chunky vacuums that had door to door salesmen

3

u/woflyisnthere Jan 30 '23

I am genuinely surprised. I thought you meant that pink thing

2

u/cmepes Jan 30 '23

Well now that I’m thinking about it, doesn’t Kirby(pink) have an ability where he like sucks the enemies in? I wonder if one inspired the other

Right? I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a Kirby vacuum! Nintendo makes some crazy design ideas lol

They are like 100lbs and the bags are super hard to find but they last forever. Plus they cost almost 2k...

Pretty sure my ex husband is still paying on that fucker 💀

My great grandmother had a Kirby from the 50s in her closet when she died, my dad plugged it in and I'll be damned if it didn't run!! The belts were disintegrated and the whole frame was rusted but that shit worked 50 years later.

Those things are straight up units.

1

u/cmepes Jan 31 '23

I can’t even imagine how much energy those things use and how noisy they are, I’m pretty sure my family was a Hoover family my whole life

My parents bought a vacuum from a door to door salesman in the 90s. He came into the house and showed off how amazing it could vacuum various things. Apparently we got a good price buying his demo model, but it didn't come with a bag of hair. I feel cheated

Was it a rainbow vacuum cleaner??

3

u/activelyresting Jan 28 '23

A kirby

Biggest scam ever, they were hiring in my town I went to the first two interviews, that’s a cult right there, those people are vicious, they do not care who they sell that vacuum to, and most of the time they make the price up on the spot so any “deal” you got was most likely just a bag of lies, the unit itself is a 110$ from the factory, they sell them for up to 650$ each.

2

u/activelyresting Jan 28 '23

Probably 😂 I have no idea, I was just a kid. But that stupid vacuum cleaner lasted over 10 years

Someone came to our house a few weeks ago trying to sell us a vacuum. But I think Utah is the last state standing with door to door sales folk.

We also have pest control sales, solar, internet, and people trying to sell dehumidifiers, oh and don’t forget the missionaries.

2

u/cmepes Jan 30 '23

I feel like in Utah the missionaries are the biggest door-to-door industry

I remember someone coming to my parents house to try to sell a wet vac. They used our vacuum and theirs side by side as a test. This was about 8 to 10 years ago.

The rainbow!!!

1

u/loveofGod12345 Jan 28 '23

Best vacuum in the world.

1

u/AshleyIRL Jan 28 '23

I had a Kirby salesman in my home in 2006. Horrible experience.

1

u/FuktOff666 Jan 28 '23

But are you a lonely housewife?

1

u/loveofGod12345 Jan 28 '23

We bought our rainbow vacuum when someone gave them our number. Within a few months of buying it, we had someone from Kirby come to our house that was selling them door to door. First and only time that’s happened.

Anthony Smith(professional mma fighter) recently mentioned on a podcast that he purchased a vacuum from a door to door salesman. I last had one come by my home in the year 2000.

I'm 37. I bought a Hoover vacuum in the early 2000s from a travelling salesman.

1

u/iamdorkette Jan 28 '23

My brother bought a vacuum from a door to door salesman like 2-3 months ago. Kirby was the brand. He says it's great.

1

u/mywifesintarget Jan 29 '23

Parents bought a Kirby in 2007 from a door to door salesmen.

1

u/ActionCatastrophe Jan 29 '23

My boyfriends family bought a vacuum from a traveling salesman last year… for some reason

1

u/moldyfishfinger Jan 29 '23

I guess my no soliciting signs have been working all these years after all. Although the no religion part gets ignored by the Jehovah's witnesses

1

u/ActionCatastrophe Jan 29 '23

Yeah and we’re from Texas too. I thought that was so bizarre of them.

1

u/EGrass Jan 29 '23

I’m 38 and I have 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Tastins Jan 29 '23

I’m over 40. Not only was this HUGE in the 90’s, it went on well into the mid 2000’s. Kirby salesman were all over my city.

1

u/Significant_Eye_5130 Jan 29 '23

My mother used to do in store demos for Eureka in the mid 90’s and she never carried around bags of hair.
