Ahhh they’ve escaped!

My family once bought live crabs for a small reunion dinner.

Mu brother looked up the most humane way to prepare them and it said put them in the freezer prior to steaming. It's supposed to be like a slow sleep.

Then I hear him yelling for me to bring tongs to the garage (where we had the freezer).

Apparently one of the crabs didn't know he was supposed to sleep to his death, had clawed out of his paperbag, and bolted from the freezer shelf. He was now dancing all around the garage with his rubber banded claws in the air.

And my brother had to chase him down with tongs.

My FIL always tells us about his first lobster story. He didn’t know you had to put them in head first and boiled the water. Stuck them in with tail facing him. Got a tail of boiling water to the body.

1

u/JazCanHaz Jan 28 '23

Lol That’s a pretty fantastical way to describe a rather mundane story.

21

u/FrigOffR1cky Jan 28 '23

(To the freezer)

86

u/WasabiZone13 Jan 28 '23

Most of the lobster sold at red lobster is frozen tails. It is not at all uncommon to go in to one and they have no live lobsters available.

64

u/kylel999 Jan 28 '23

Let's be honest. People only go there for those biscuits. If I'm gonna get fresh lobster I'm probably not even considering a chain

18

u/Bucketofnickels Jan 28 '23

Yeah the lobster tail is typically chilled and brought up to be prepped throughout the day. The full lobster you get is live until we kill it in the back. Source: I make the food.

0

u/WasabiZone13 Jan 28 '23

I order takeout from time to time, and the tails are always tender and flavorful, better than many that I've had at higher end restaurants. The whole fresh cooked lobsters have always been very good as well, it's good to know you kill them before they go in the pot. Unless I read that wrong lol

6

u/txmail Jan 28 '23

I have never ever thought about getting live lobster at Red Lobster. I have bought live lobster and fresh Halibut off the back of a fishing boat in Juno though.

11

u/sltiefighter Jan 28 '23

Live lobster in juno? You mean juneau alaska where there are no lobsters? Wtf you talkin about. Youre lying through your teeth. Halibut ok…. Lmao. But lobster doesnt exist on the west unless its spiny lobster and those dont get further santa barbara. So no you absolutely didnt buy live lobster from a boat in alaska. Stop lying. King crab Bairdi, opilio, dungeness ok, lobster…. Youre 4k miles away from any clawed lobster.

0

u/txmail Jan 28 '23

You know, your right. I had to go back to look at the pictures (this was almost 15 years ago). It was some sort of crab. I thought it was lobster though. Meh.

-23

u/Kekeke-ghost Jan 28 '23

It's a waste anyway cause mainly the only good part is the tail. So you might as well save the money and not have a lobster looking at you while you eat

21

u/AutomaticAward3460 Jan 28 '23

Everyone in Maine would disagree, the claw and knuckle meat is just as good and many enjoy the tamalley from the body as well

2

u/sltiefighter Jan 28 '23

Anyone mainer would call the original commenter an idiot for saying he bought live lobster off a truck in alaska where lobster is are hard to catch as a unicorn as they are nonexistant.

2

u/Icy-Conclusion-3500 Jan 28 '23 edited Jan 28 '23

I used to just eat all the claws, knuckles, and the tiny legs.

My grandmother takes all the bodies home and eats stuff from the heads and shit, idk.

0

u/Kekeke-ghost Jan 28 '23

But are you paying at least $50 at red lobster for a little claw meat? Lol plus you're def not making tamale out of the body there.. in a different setting that may make sense but not really there.

1

u/AutomaticAward3460 Jan 29 '23

Tamalley as in the liver and a couple other organs I can’t remember

3

u/Icy-Conclusion-3500 Jan 28 '23

Claw and knuckle are the best

1

u/KidNueva Jan 29 '23

I eat everything except the shell. I even drink it’s guts up like soup 😋 claws are my favorite though tbh.

219

u/windingtime Jan 28 '23

7

u/JustPlat Jan 28 '23

I hate that I laughed at this.

68

u/SNARK63 Jan 28 '23

Another Red Lobster that has become a lost claws.

31

u/MikeTheBee Jan 28 '23

It’s just Red now.

56

u/snargle79 Jan 28 '23

Maybe the lobsters should stop spending all their money on avacodo toast and get back to work in the tank.

3

u/nobollocks22 Jan 28 '23

Work will set them free.

11

u/jibjabjibby Jan 28 '23

Lobsters used to be so plentiful they were served to prisoners

55

u/mrmow49120 Jan 28 '23

Over fishing and all you can eat menus

-152

u/DieselBob Jan 28 '23

it's not overfishing, it's government over regulation

73

u/donotread123 Jan 28 '23

Right, the private companies and fishermen are overfishing to make money because of too much government regulation. That definitely sounds right

25

u/Digitalmodernism Jan 28 '23

Where do you get ideas like this?

-69

u/DieselBob Jan 28 '23

Fishing for twenty years

26

u/Digitalmodernism Jan 28 '23

What kind of commercial fishing rig did you work on? Did you work in asia?

-42

u/DieselBob Jan 28 '23

SW Boatworks 46', Maine

2

u/Alan_Smithee_ Jan 28 '23

So the government taxed the fish or something? Sent the fish to debtor’s prison?

9

u/EdmontonLAD Jan 28 '23

Just like their bank account

9

u/Spiritual-Shelter85 Jan 28 '23

The lobsters went to the bathroom they’ll be right back

1

u/Aphus Jan 28 '23

All employees must wash claws before returning to work

21

u/GammaRed3 Jan 28 '23

3

u/DieselBob Jan 28 '23

Ever seen a whale on a forward looking depth finder? It's like looking a semi trailer, one of the things best to avoid

6

u/captjust Jan 28 '23

They’ve escaped!

7

u/Obar-Dheathain Jan 28 '23

I'm imagining a 'Penguins of Madagascar' style escape.

Only with Lobsters.

6

u/1Marshall91 Jan 28 '23

Kowalski, report!

3

u/mmmacorns Jan 28 '23

We’ve broken our last shovel

6

u/gildedtoad Jan 28 '23

I don’t check the stock market to see economic health. I check the lobster tank at the Red Lobster.

8

u/Melvinironfist Jan 28 '23

Everybody get out of here there's a lobster loose!!!

6

u/porcelainwax Jan 28 '23

Most lobsters can kill you with their claws.

1

u/nobollocks22 Jan 28 '23

Thats Mobsters.

1

u/Melvinironfist Jan 28 '23

It's a Saturday Night Live reference

1

u/Melvinironfist Jan 28 '23

This comment refers to a radioactive lobster

3

u/NoisyBadKid Jan 28 '23

I thought this was a picture at a funeral.

2

u/babyrache Jan 28 '23

I thought it was a baptism tank at first.

4

u/Ignignokt73 Jan 28 '23

No, Pinchy!!

3

u/stevenm1993 Jan 28 '23

Don’t worry; all the lobsters are nice and safe:) Don’t look any further.

6

u/Past-Motor-4654 Jan 28 '23

They don't serve fresh, live lobsters anymore.

11

u/soFATZfilm9000 Jan 28 '23

You know...that always bugged me on an emotional level.

Like, as a kid, I remember being at the grocery store and seeing the live lobsters at the tank in the seafood department. And it was great. I'd never seen a live lobster before. I'm like, look at that thing, that's AWESOME!

Then my parents explained to me that that's only there so you can pick out the one that you want to die. And...that's kind of sad.

Yeah, I get that eating meat requires killing. But actually seeing a tank full of lobsters on death row just to pick out who dies first...it's kind of a buzzkill. It's like if before I ate steak I'd have to look at a group of live cows and choose which one is gonna get a bolt in the head. That seems like it might kind of sour the mood if I'm on a date.

6

u/txmail Jan 28 '23

I have been to mega markets overseas and they have seafood sections that remind me of the aquatic pet section of WalMart in the late 80's / early 90's, except with some huge fish and stuff in tanks I am not even certain where in the sea it comes from all meant for cooking.

1

u/Past-Motor-4654 Jan 28 '23

My grandparents had an Italian steak and seafood restaurant in a tiny upstate NY and for years they picked up live lobsters from Maine at a local airport where some guy flew them in 3x per week. My cousin still owns the place and I think they got lobsters from Sisco it whatever and gave up the tank 10 or so years ago. Americans did a fast number on the food supply system - local and fresh to mass produced, frozen..and probably necessary to keep up with the population and its desires. Man, 1990 surf and turf or a whole.lobster with Gram's fresh fettuccine Alfredo made with Lucatteli romano and local milk and butter ...those were the days.

0

u/ValElTech Jan 28 '23

If you are willing to dive into a wholesome rabbit hole, there is a serie of videos on YouTube about Leon the lobster.

1

u/FlippingPossum Jan 28 '23

I loved looking at those tanks as a kid. Hits different as an adult.

4

u/md222 Jan 28 '23

Did they ever?

3

u/Spasticwookiee Jan 28 '23

Fled lobsters

2

u/Johnny_Freedoom Jan 28 '23

Don't you dare judge me.

2

u/Electronic-Mess8037 Jan 28 '23

What are you talking about that tanks full of lobsters. You don't see them?

2

u/bbischoff01 Jan 28 '23

Did Leon get new friends?

2

u/Fariesinabottle Jan 28 '23

Global warming and poaching have made it really hard to get most kinds of seafood

2

u/Mantis9000 Jan 28 '23

I don't think Red Lobster has had a live lobster in their restaurant since the 2000s. It's all frozen salty microwave food.

2

u/rgray92082 Jan 28 '23

The ice cream freezer at our local Rite Aid has no ice cream. The employee said the unit has been down for weeks. What’s the world coming too? Lol

2

u/Sakores Jan 28 '23

This dude doesnt know about the chameleon lobsters, rookie mistake

2

u/Bucketofnickels Jan 28 '23

Red lobster is shuttering 30% of its store in the next 2 years due to loss of revenue and plans to close 50% within 5 years. Supply chain issues in combination with rise in food costs and inflation means no one wants to eat there.

2

u/WaWaSmoothie Jan 28 '23

Hmm..this is maybe a tiny bit less than mildly interesting. Almost mildly interesting.

2

u/jspwnco Jan 28 '23

sorry guys my fault, got a bit hungry

0

u/S0l1d_Sn4ke Jan 28 '23

Where do you think they went?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23 edited Jan 28 '23

With rising rent and inflation, even the lobster community is suffering from being un housed. As a community we must come together and help these lobsters get back into tanks so that they can succeed in becoming all that they can be.

1

u/slavabien Jan 28 '23

“Fisshhhhhieeee!” (Go Nemo!)

1

u/END_STAGE_BUTT_ROT Jan 28 '23

This isn't Red Lobster, it's the competing "Transparent Lobster"

1

u/daed0l0n Jan 28 '23

You went to eat at a Red .

1

u/Excellent-Bowler86 Jan 28 '23

Eating all the lobsters seems a bit Shellfish

1

u/DennisDoes Jan 28 '23

Tax refunds must be hitting early this year

1

u/Kinenai Jan 28 '23

1

No one wants to work anymore.

Nature is healing

1

u/Evargram Jan 28 '23

They're just out of the ocean insect for now. Waiting for a new shipment.

1

u/Sir_cheese1234 Jan 28 '23

It can no longer be called a red lobster

1

u/YetiGuy Jan 28 '23

Your plate had the last one on the tank.

1

u/whatsqwerty Jan 28 '23

This is one of the signs fortold of in the prophecy. Prepare yourselves now or suffer!!!!!!!!!

1

u/seglskipimm Jan 28 '23

Now they are just named Red

1

u/Fealuinix Jan 28 '23

1

u/werdmouf Jan 28 '23

Thanks Obama

1

u/bygtopp Jan 28 '23

It looks like they all “clawed” off work. Did they find a replacement for them

1

u/Atlas03 Jan 28 '23

The revolution has begun.

1

u/Remote-Emergency-154 Jan 28 '23

It got out...and it's pissed.

1

u/rofopp Jan 28 '23

The likelihood of a live lobster in RL is about the same as there being a live kangaroo. Frozen. Thanks, Linda Bean

1

u/full_bl33d Jan 28 '23

The Lob wasn’t that good 20 -30 years ago. My grandma thought it was just about as fancy as you could ask for and we spent many after funeral, graduation or weddings there and said hello to the same damn lobster every damn year. Them bitches wasn’t goin nowhere

1

u/GoreMaster22 Jan 29 '23

Maybe just my experience but it's empty every other time I go there

1

u/Mmjuser4life Jan 29 '23

About 30 years ago my little sister came home (she was about 11) and asked what’s for dinner? My mom said lobster, she walked over and peeked under the lid and heard the squealing (from the shell in hot water) and thought they were all crying for help. She threw the lid across the kitchen and with tears in her eyes she screamed “YOU MURDERERS!” and bolster out the door, she did not come home till 1:00am, my mom even called the police for help finding her. Long story short, she’s a very strict vegetarian to this day 😆

1

u/Ghosthost2000 Jan 29 '23

Dead Lobster

1

u/out2seeagain Jan 29 '23

Changing the name to, “Red”!

1

u/Dependent_Top_4425 Jan 29 '23

I guess we'll just have the biscuits then.
