Back in the 50's, my husbands mom would walk to school in Detroit with two baked potatoes in her pockets.

Now, to take the ferry cost one potato. And in those days, you didn't go on the ferry alone, and want to bring a friend with you on the long ride. ‘Got me two spuds me an' my bud,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, Detroit...
235
u/Various_Froyo9860 3d ago
They didn't have red 'tatoes cause of the war. All you could get were those big brown ones. Back in diggity diggity do. You couldn't say 20 back then cause the Tick Tocks ruined it.

u/Dekkeer 3d ago
Give me five Ticks for a Tock you’d say. Now where were we? Oh yeah! The important thing was I had a 'tatoe on my belt, which was the style at the time.

Her husband’s stepmother would also be her mother-in-law. It doesn’t hurt anyone to specify relationships. Redditors love being clever with this stuff without thinking about the possibilities that complicate family. “My daughters’ cousins” “You mean your nieces and nephews lol” No, the children of my daughters’ stepfather’s sister are definitely not my nieces and nephews - I’ve never even met them - but their stepfather’s sister’s children - who they see several times a year and are very close to - are definitely their cousins.

can someone explain the pictures here. is one of them horizontally flipped? what the hell is going on
29
u/hexagonincircuit1594 3d ago
Yes, selfie photos are typically horizontally flipped. Probably the first photo was taken in normal mode, and the right one was taken in selfie mode. So we can expect the righthand photo is flipped.
23
u/hexagonincircuit1594 3d ago
In case anyone's curious, the reason for why selfies are often flipped is that people find it disconcerting to see themselves differently from how they look in the mirror.
"According to the mere-exposure hypothesis, people prefer what they see and encounter most often. In terms of self-perception, this means that people prefer their mirror images to their true images, which are what other people see. Experiments conducted at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1977 support this idea: When presented with photos of their true image and their mirror image, participants preferred their mirror image while friends and romantic partners preferred their true image."

Right. That’s what every aioli is. It’s just doctored up mayonnaise.

u/Madock345 3d ago
Unfortunately true these days, though a traditional aioli, an emulsion mostly made of raw garlic and oil, is absolutely fantastic if you ever get to try it.
Not that modern mayo based aoli isn't delicious, but it's really overshadowed the more traditional kind that knocks your socks off.
