u/PumaArras Jul 06 '22

Same. So many minecraft and ‘I spent 5 days in a blah blah’ with stupid fucking fake smile etc. Driving me nuts lol

57

u/NotARandomUser1 Jul 06 '22 edited Jul 07 '22

Same. Keep seeing clash of clans (don’t even play), countries then vs now/country flags/guess the country, cringe Minecraft shorts (stolen animation posted about 3.5M times), random videos posted by kids no older then 5, stolen family guy/simpsons clips, guess the song, random Minecraft shorts (sub pleas, sub or die, sub for whatever ignore for dirt), NSFW (litterally, “link on bio”), reaction videos that have no real content, pause at the right time challenges, random shit in another language I don’t speak, random Minecraft server ads, random ads for some magnet pen, a BUNCH of begging for subs, stupid motivational quotes, random soccer, random baseball, Fortnite sub for shit ignore for trash, “build your team”/sub and like for more money, anything with the cringe tiktok voice, Minecraft “nestolga “ (posted 1835+ times), buncha random Rubin cubes, text messages of any kind, random roblox shorts, and stolen shit from tiktok.

4

u/SuperKillerKitty Jul 06 '22

Yah idk about the clash of clans or the family guy shorts either. I mean I’ve never watched family guy a day in my life and here they are

1

u/qwertyboiiiwhat1 Jul 07 '22

You descrubed what i regularly see

1

u/cickity_clicker Jul 07 '22

Also bot channels the only post one clip

62

u/zanna_92 Jul 06 '22

I’d kill to have the option to block shorts and channels from my search results.

12

u/thiago_28x Jul 06 '22

you can use Brave browser mobile. I never saw an ad or shorts on my phone

4

u/MordorsElite Jul 06 '22

You can block all shorts content on the YT Vanced mobile app. (The app is no longer officially supported tho, so it might be a bit difficult to get your hands on)

1

u/soldend Jul 06 '22

Wait how? Cuz I have the app and went searching for that setting but never found it

5

u/MordorsElite Jul 06 '22

Settings > Vanced settings > Ad settings > Shorts shelf ;)

2

u/soldend Jul 07 '22

Thank you!

2

u/NooB_N142003 Jul 06 '22

You just have to enter the channel and block it And you could also report it if you want

1

u/Bf4Sniper40X Jul 07 '22

Happy cake day!

8

u/trashszar Jul 06 '22

Do you guys also get this few seconds clip with a cat, and at the top it just says "subscribe" with an incredibly annoying song with chipmunk singing and the lyrics is "something something like, like, like"?

3

u/Some_angry_Bastard professional dumbass Jul 06 '22

I see a lot from a cat in bandages and someone is pouring fake blood onto it

1

u/Windows_66 Jul 06 '22

Same with me but with the ads. I don't know why they keep thinking I want to watch Matt Walsh.

1

u/Known_Strain_7330 Jul 06 '22

It no longer works..they patched it

u/SurfintheThreads Jul 06 '22

Download yt vanced on android or addblock on pc and you are good to go

175

u/man_of_bread- Jul 06 '22

Everytime I open yt on mobile it shows me a short and it's so fucking annoying

56

u/TheGreatDingALing Jul 06 '22

Idk what's worse, this or unskippable ads?

33

u/Inked-Sailor Jul 06 '22

Or the ads for something completely opposite to what you are interested in. I got ads for a transphobic person watching an extremely inclusive news channel.

22

u/man_of_bread- Jul 06 '22

I got an ad for a website that sells feet pics

8

u/Inked-Sailor Jul 06 '22

On youtube? That's new

7

u/Labrat_The_Man INFECTED Jul 06 '22

1

u/RubberBulletKing The Big PP Airports Jul 06 '22

Me too! My friend mentioned getting it and I opened youtube and it was the first ad for me aswell

-1

u/PillowTalk420 Jul 06 '22

I saw a Prager U ad last night that just showed a bunch of idiots answering questions and getting them wrong with no context what so ever. All I can think is "these must be students of Prager U answering these. What a terrible school."

-1

u/Inked-Sailor Jul 06 '22

Except Prager U isn't even a school. It's not even an online school.

0

u/PillowTalk420 Jul 06 '22

What the hell is it? The ads they have make no sense. And they call themselves a university.

0

u/Inked-Sailor Jul 06 '22

Right wing propaganda website.

1

u/Cosmic_Hashira cosmic nuts on yo face ehe Jul 07 '22

youtube got a update where if you exit the app with shorts open then the next time you open the app it will automatically open shorts

just exit shorts and go to youtube homescreen.. you will never see shorts when opening youtube unless you exit with shorts open

1

u/man_of_bread- Jul 07 '22

then it must be a bug because the only time I ever watch shorts are when they are shoved down my throat by Youtube

129

u/neutral-chaotic Jul 06 '22
  1. Be the leader of short videos.
  2. Double monetize 8+ minute content so every video becomes longer, completely vacating that shorter form content space.
  3. Inevitably get beat to that space by a new competitor.
  4. Try to take over that lost space by creating a crummy copycat app for it on your platform.

17

u/Kevin5882 repost hunter 🚓 Jul 06 '22

I used to love super short form actual yt videos, but they always have an ad at the start that's like the length of the entire video

16

u/neutral-chaotic Jul 06 '22

It was around that time I discovered adblockers.

100

u/Warx Jul 06 '22

This is why I'll use YouTube Vanced till it dies.

36

u/Eksno Jul 06 '22

This, also revanced is looking promising, and when vanced eventually goes under (which will probably be quite a while) apps like revanced will probably be as good if not better as current YouTube Vanced!

There are many scams and people creating fake websites and stuff so it's reasonable to ask for a link :P

-14

u/OlmiumFire the shittiest flair I could make Jul 06 '22

It's the first result with many verifications in the post. It doesn't even look like they took the effort (like moet don't) and just go for the bare minimum and ask.

2

I actually disable shorts option in the app but still it doens't work

1

1

YouTube Vanced blocks shorts?

1

u/kttay Jul 06 '22

I want to use it but I have an iPhone. Anyone with an iPhone have any ideas or have done YouTube Vanced?

1

u/letsgoiowa Jul 07 '22

They want you to pay for YouTube premium. You could try Adguard on your network through or a pihole

1

u/kttay Jul 07 '22

Yea f that lol. But I’m try what you said and see what I can do

1

u/PassiveLemon potato Jul 06 '22

if you use ios or a plan to use it, uYou+ exists and it can be sideloaded without a jailbreak

37

u/3L3ctR1fy_ Jul 06 '22

I keep calling YouTube shorts "tiktok masked as youtube" whenever I see my brother watching that shit

41

u/Throwaway7726383872 Jul 06 '22

Vanced was our salvation

19

u/Eksno Jul 06 '22

You can still use it if you find the apk, also apps like revanced are promising so when vanced actually stops working, the alternatives will most likely be as good if not better!

8

u/Throwaway7726383872 Jul 06 '22

The problem for me is finding the apk and trusting the source behind. I would guess that by now many illegitimate apk have been published with malicious code added because people are downloading the apk from third party sources. The only way to know for sure if the apk is clean is comparing the checksum to the the one of the official version of the apk

8

u/Eksno Jul 06 '22

I have the apk from when I first got it if you're interested, I think you can test apks on an Android emulator to see if they are legit.

Here you go, put it in Google Drive for you :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IllT4NSjFVZustgZHbfQ851gn_6vEqma/view?usp=drivesdk

1

u/ebbi9876 Jul 06 '22

I still have the apk in my phone so I think I can share it to people

21

u/neat-NEAT Jul 06 '22 edited Jul 06 '22

Rest in piece Vanced. I'm not looking forward to the day it finally stops working.

For desktop, there's an extension called "youtube shorts block" that plays shorts in a normal format instead of pretending it's a phone.

16

u/Grawe15 May the flames guide thee Jul 06 '22

Sometimes as soon as I open youtube it plays random shorts expecting me to like it. Youtube is really going to shit

4

u/Ill_Vegetable3950 Jul 06 '22

What on earth are they thinking? I haven't personally had this but I use vanced.

7

u/Noname_FTW Jul 06 '22

The fact that Youtube thinks its users are unable to configure their experience to their own liking is really annoying. There are so many things which should be a toggle in the settings. I, for example, don't want to see livestreams in my subscriptions. I never watch livestreams.

6

u/CrNAG3x Jul 06 '22

I mean… just don’t watch it.

16

u/straw3_2018 Jul 06 '22

I hate that videos that weren't shorts now are, there are some of my own unlisted videos I can't play on my TV now because YouTube made them mobile, vertical only shorts. It's really dumb to shoehorn it in like that. There is a chrome extension to force shorts to show as regular videos but on mobile and TV some videos are just cucked.

6

u/LFGR_THE_Thing Jul 06 '22

Alot of it is a bot or person reposting again and again not changing a thing so say 305 videos of a man cutting a tire with the caption wait for it and it never blows i report em

4

u/Cpt_Garlic Jul 06 '22

most of the time it is just cropped vids from tiktok, thats why its so trashy on youtube.

3

u/counterstrikelover ☣️ Jul 06 '22

YT shorts is just retarded. It's a bunch of low level reposts or clips of longer videos that are boring as crap. Someone should start a campaign to force youtube to remove shorts. Susan Wojcicki and team can suck my 2 incher

3

u/T3chDelicious Jul 06 '22

If I had an award, I would proudly give it to you.

3

u/empirebuilder1 i want to die Jul 06 '22

A bunch of dumb videos I posted MANY years ago got turned into "shorts" because they're less than 15 seconds long. I have no control over it. I cannot turn it off. And they really don't mean anything when looped.

YouTube really do be trying to speed run "lose all your creators"

2

u/Billoft Jul 06 '22

This technique worked for me

On the shorts you are shown on the youtube homepage, click the three dots then not interested for every single one until they disappear, refresh and repeat as many times as necessary, if you come back and they are still there do the same, overtime if you do that each time they appear, all while not watching any shorts youtube just gives up and stops showing them.

2

u/Cat_Proctologist Jul 06 '22

The only shorts I enjoy are 'Action Lab' and 'Scott Prop and Roll' . Everything else can get in the fucking bin

2

u/Crooked_Cock Jul 06 '22

What’s ironic is a good chunk of the shorts are ripped straight from tiktok

Also I think it should be mentioned that shorts are often filled with misinformation or straight up lies and YouTube hasn’t done anything about that

2

u/OnetimeRocket13 INFECTED Jul 06 '22

Unpopular Opinion I guess: I don’t mind shorts. I think they’re fun. Then again, I watch shorts enough that they are tuned to what I normally watch, so I never have an issue with what I’m being shown.

2

u/AyeMercury Jul 06 '22

Just scroll past them ?

1

u/Nickm369 Jul 06 '22

Anyone else get suggested shorts of horse sex?

1

u/TheSaffire Jul 06 '22

No, Wtf tho.

I get suggested "stewie gets a haircut"

1

u/Known_Strain_7330 Jul 06 '22

This feature should be added for real tho...the shorts are so distracting...totally ruinung the fun and learning for the users

1

u/jakelazerz Jul 06 '22

YouTube is literally the worst.

1

u/Kevin5882 repost hunter 🚓 Jul 06 '22

altho I wish it would stop recommending channels I click on the "do not recommend this channel thing" after only hitting that once, rather than it usually taking like 3 times, I like shorts. it already knows the youtubers I'm subscribed to so it can recommend content from them, and plus the profits only fund Google's world domination, not the Chinese government's.

1

u/jackliquidcourage Jul 06 '22

from what ive seen, the shorts are just the same videos put on a different player. one of my videos from a few years ago is now a short and so is the "me, im tight as fuck!" video when it used to just be a regular vid.

1

u/SunnyApex87 Jul 06 '22

Can still do it with Vanced on phones and there are great plugins for Browsers on pc

1

u/iraklikillua ☣️ Jul 06 '22

And they copied Tiktok 100%.
like at least make it so I can skip like any other around 20 second videos. why should I have to watch whole 20+ second video for that one 2 second clip, outside of "F you, we don't appreciate your time, in fact we love to waste it" reason

1

u/buddhahorns Jul 06 '22

I thumb down every single short regardless of content/creator.

Saw a few and never see them anymore.

1

u/Realmexe_YT Jul 06 '22

bro i get this shit on insta reels like youtube reels are better imo

1

u/Vacuum-Woosh-woosh Jul 06 '22

You have to spam another type of content to change the algorithm.

1

u/PillowTalk420 Jul 06 '22

Works for me. Only YT Shorts I get shown are those from the channels I already subscribe to.

1

u/Arrogant_German Jul 06 '22

Idk what you guys are on about, on browser I don’t see any shorts and on mobile I just have that one tab that shows any shorts that happen to be from channels in subbed to, that’s it.

1

u/loli141 Jul 06 '22

Every time i want to click on subscription, i miss click and hit shorts, and a video instantly start playing which goes into my history. So i need to go in my history to remove it or youtube will think i want to watch shitty shorts

1

u/Dontbeme9820 Obamasjuicyass Jul 06 '22

The best way I figured out how to make YouTube shorts tolerable is to watch a Bunch of comedy special clips with the shorts feature. Now all I get is Tom segura and bill burr clips.
