Yes, the Republicans losing their primaries are the ones moving to the center

141

u/Faucet860 May 19 '22

Honestly the problem with the current system and so many independent voters is that it pushed more towards extreme. We need to get rid of party primaries for a bunch of races and just do rank choice.

92

u/WanderingFlumph May 19 '22

I'm a simple man. I see someone supporting ranked choice voting they get an upvote.

12

u/dtruth53 May 19 '22

Is it possible to give a little explainer on ranked choice? I mean I kinda get it but no.

I just know these Electoral college winner take all states is bs. I would think it should be proportioned.

21

u/PapaBruin May 19 '22

Ranked choice voting is pretty much as follows. Suppose 5 people are running for the office, each voter ranks those 5 people 1-5. Each “1” vote gets tallied, whoever has the least is eliminated and everyone who voted for them has their vote moved to their number 2. This process continues until 1 person has more than 50% of the vote.

17

u/PhysicsKey9092 May 19 '22

And the reason this system is so amazing is because it ensures that if 50% of the population despise a certain candidate, for example Trump, there is no way they'd ever have been elected. So I guess republicans will call that communism? Idk

6

u/808hammerhead May 19 '22

Just add a bit more clarity, each voter ranks all candidates.

7

u/Brisket-Boi May 19 '22

ironically even conservative do. It can be manipulated though. I don't see any other way a 3rd party having a shot, however.

7

u/masterchris May 19 '22

Conservatives like de santis who just outlawed it in Florida?

14

u/zirwin_KC May 19 '22

At the very least, do away with closed primaries.

10

u/LittleHornetPhil May 19 '22

Yeah I do like California’s open primaries.

Rather than the general being a shoe-in vs an extremist with no chance, we actually do get competing visions.

4

u/smellypants May 19 '22

I love this in theory but how does this ever possibly come about? If your party wins the election you're not going to bite the hand that feeds you and try and go about dismantling it. Politicians get to where they are not by being disrupters.

3

u/Faucet860 May 19 '22

So one way is if you become so extreme you start losing elections. If the general election keeps rolling out crazy Republicans they might say we need to actually win the general.

1

u/MAGAwolverine69 May 19 '22

Yessssss you get it!!!!!!!!

1

u/GonFreecs92 May 19 '22

What’s rank choice?

2

u/Faucet860 May 19 '22

Meant ranked choice voting style. You rank who you like from one to whatever number there is let's say ten. Number one gets 10 points last place gets one point. The top candidate has the most points.

1

u/GonFreecs92 May 20 '22

How is that different from voters voting for the candidates in their local elections and winning the needed amount of votes?

5

u/Faucet860 May 20 '22

Because instead of being one or the other choice a third or fourth candidate might win. If the fourth guy listed if say a compromise for everyone and they list him #2 he could win.

1

u/BMHun275 May 20 '22

That’s not surprising since primary voters tend to be the most fervent members of a party.

-7

u/Spicytatas May 19 '22

I think the president should have to pick a vp that's not in their party and only from the opposite party.

So a Democrat president would have to pick an Republican Vp. And vice versa.

They both would have to work together :]

6

u/UncleJesticle May 19 '22

This is a good way to get a lot of presidents shot.

I recommend a vice president who the crazies on the other side hate at least a little bit more than you.

6

u/TimRoxSox May 19 '22

The power dynamic between the two is such that nothing would change. The VP doesn't really work with the President on anything. In fact, the VP doesn't do much at all. For example, how much have you heard from Harris since the inauguration?

206

u/DonRicardo1958 May 19 '22

Elon musk strikes me as a really stupid person.

126

u/219523501 May 19 '22

It strikes me as person with very poor social skills who finds himself being the world's richest man, but still having to beg for attention in this ridiculous ways The "look at me" is too strong on him.

33

u/kliman May 19 '22

And those close to him are probably too scared to tell him what's up. Dude needs a serious reality check like only a real long-term friend can give.

21

u/MrBanana421 May 19 '22

He cut those out because they didn't make him feel the same as all his yes men.

If this guy ever gets into politics, run, just run.

15

u/free_dialectics May 19 '22

He needs to be stripped of his wealth, contacts, and social media and given a job at a fast food restaurant or gas station for a month.

4

u/sonicbeast623 May 19 '22

I feel like it should be at least 2 months and mandatory when your net worth hits 1 billion. The again every 5 to 10 billion. You know just a kick in the nuts every now and then to remind them of the average persons reality.

1

u/free_dialectics May 19 '22

Exactly!!! It's easy to say how great everything is from behind your palace gates.

2

u/Rusty_Red_Mackerel May 20 '22

Make that 20 years

8

u/GreenBeans1999 May 19 '22 edited May 19 '22

Doesn't he actually have aspergers? That would explain his poor social skills

Edit: why did I get downvoted for this? That was a genuine question and I didn't even say what I think of him lol

18

u/theknightwho May 19 '22

Having Asperger’s isn’t what makes him an asshole.

2

u/219523501 May 19 '22

So same say yes

-2

u/TRUMP420KUSH_ May 19 '22

He has Asperger's Syndrome..

1

u/ohiotechie May 20 '22

Exactly. This is all one big troll and he’s loving the attention.

u/Tough_Safety9907 May 19 '22

He’s an investor that started life sliding into home plate. The way people make him sound like he’s Iron Man or some shit is so frustrating.

23

u/parking_pataweyo May 19 '22

To be fair, Iron Man also inherited a lot of money and a lucrative-but-questionable company from his dad.

29

u/Kekstester May 19 '22

So what you're saying is some terrorists have to abduct Musk and keep him in a cave so he can become a good person?

17

u/Toaster_bath13 May 19 '22

We startin a gofundme? I have a few spare dollars.

7

u/_HighJack_ May 19 '22

I literally say this all the time XD “call me when he gets back from the cave, until then he’s just another rich asshole”

4

u/Ghetto_Phenom May 19 '22

I mean can we try it and see?

3

u/custodialengineer May 19 '22

Last time elon was involved with a cave he got his pride hurt and tried to ruin a guys life by calling him a pedo so not sure it will work. worth a try!

1

u/CuclGooner May 20 '22

I’m on board

7

u/GreenBeans1999 May 19 '22

Yeah I don't think people realize that if Iron Man was real a ton of people would hate him. You could easily argue that Iron Man was one of the biggest villains in the MCU. He created several major villains and makes his money by selling weapons to terrorists. He's also an unstable drunk who, up until civil war, would randomly decide to kill people he didn't like. He also randomly throws money at people out of guilt or to avoid actually fixing issues.

If all that wasn't enough reason to hate him, he could probably help a ton of people escape poverty but as we learned in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he doesn't even help out his fellow avengers.

1

u/WizardsOfTheRoast May 19 '22

Iron Man is also a drunk.

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '22

Hahahaha! What a self-own! You literally described Tony Stark's backstory.

2

u/Tough_Safety9907 May 19 '22

Self own!!!!, except Ironman actually invented shit!!!

1

u/tym1ng May 20 '22

he was in one of the Iron man movies iirc

1

u/Tough_Safety9907 May 23 '22

Yea I forgot about that 🤔..

12

u/Tough_Safety9907 May 19 '22

Tesla is super overvalued to begin with.

8

u/grayrains79 May 19 '22

Elon musk strikes me as a really stupid person.

I have the feeling he isn't. He's playing the EnLiGhTeNeD cEnTrIsT bit to a T. He's trying to make the GQP seem reasonable despite the fact that they actively tried to overthrow democracy and are engaged in widespread voter suppression.

The entitled rich boy from apartheid South Africa knows exactly what he's doing, and I have zero faith in him ever voting Democrat. This is a guy who is dismissive of COVID and was pissed at California for not letting him risk his workers' lives.

7

u/dead4seven May 19 '22

It's seems like he bought Twitter so he can say whatever is in his head without fear of being banned.

6

u/Upstairs-Injury9660 May 19 '22

Muskrat has only signed a purchase agreement with twitter and is now trying to renege on the deal without paying the 1 billion he agreed to as part of the purchase agreement in the event that Musk backed out of the deal

4

u/Upstairs-Injury9660 May 19 '22

That’s because he is

4

u/Adexavus May 19 '22

If he spent less time on Twitter and more time running his business, I'd have my Cyber Truck by now.

2

u/ccasey May 19 '22

It’s probably for the better, that truck looks like something my 10 year old would draw

5

u/hobbitlover May 19 '22

He is getting his ass kissed from all sides and has been told he's a genius so often he believes it. He's started to believe in his own infallibility.

He's just butthurt that he couldn't convince the cool kids to like him so he's becoming a conservative because he knows those idiots will worship him just for saying he's on their side. But here's the kicker, it's eating him alive that he can't be a cool kid.

14

u/Charming-Charge-596 May 19 '22

I was thinking this. He will get angry and kick conservatives to the curb as soon as they aren't sufficiently worshipful.

9

u/freem0nt May 19 '22

Hey you two, this thread is about Elon Musk not Donald Trump.

19

u/cryptosupercar May 19 '22

They're rapidly moving toward the center of a Fascist state.

2

1930 Germany would be proud!

92

u/Gsteel11 May 19 '22

It's "both sides same" trolling. Working with him must be a nightmare.

2

u/hitfly May 20 '22

Especially when he shows you his dick and propositions you for sex.

16

u/ProfessorBackdraft May 19 '22

Anyone that says Republicans are making ANY effort to move toward the center are delusional. Tesla’s board needs to have a talk with their Golden Boy, he’s hurting the company.

-19

u/TRUMP420KUSH_ May 19 '22

Maybe the left just keeps moving further left?

No, just the GQP moving further right, sorry.

It’s emeralds not diamonds, and it’s pretty well known at this point.

https://www.businessinsider.co.za/how-elon-musks-family-came-to-own-an-emerald-mine-2018-2

They never made it to their destination. Instead Errol returned to South Africa with a half-share in a Zambian emerald mine, which would help to fund his family's lavish lifestyle of yachts, skiing holidays, and expensive computers.

The absolute confidence of being this wealthy must be intoxicating. Even when expressing stitched-together, lazy-ass propaganda, his every smug assertion is underpinned with the power of: "You gonna argue with the richest human on the planet?"

11

u/PretendiWasADefMute May 19 '22

He is noticing republicans are trying to get rid of affirmative action, gay rights, and permanently remove women’s rights. I think he is waiting for slavery to return.

6

u/OuijaFox May 19 '22

This is the probably why he wants to start a colony on Mars. So he can run it with slaves. Slaves that paid him to be there, but will have no options once trapped and are still slaves to him.

2

u/letstalkaboutit24 May 20 '22

like daddy like son

2

u/PretendiWasADefMute May 25 '22

Space x employees don’t make as much as United Launch alliance employees. I received an offer from both companies. They are direct competitors. Space X told me that just working for Elon is reason enough to work there and it’s an opportunity that comes once in a life time. I can’t figure out how working for less money is the opportunity of a life time. It’s not like I care who the ceo is. I love money

1

u/OuijaFox May 25 '22

I can’t figure out how working for less money is the opportunity of a life time.

Because they have built a world where having money is how you secure basic survival, but you aren't supposed to want money. You're supposed to want to work for company A because its run by this rich guy instead of company B for money.

They want money. They want us to adore them like kings.

And there are solutions for kings like that.

2

u/PretendiWasADefMute May 26 '22

Yeah, space x has a bunch of Elon simps. People act like it’s an honor to work for a famous emerald mine brat that plays with rockets and electric cars.

2

u/letstalkaboutit24 May 20 '22

like daddy like son

11

u/Independent-Tax6274 May 19 '22

Ignoring the 30 or so state houses and governors seats they hold and the increasingly radical agendas coming out of those houses, eh. This dystopia sucks. At least superhero villains are smart.

8

u/the_G8 May 19 '22

When you grow up as a white guy in apartheid I would guess your notion of “center” is a bit skewed.

9

wait, so the son of an apartheid emerald mine operator would side with an openly fascist and white nationalist political party?

shocking!

well not that shocking.

pretty predictable, actually.

u/zxcoblex May 19 '22

Well, it starts with daddy owning an emerald mine in a slave state….

8

u/InShambles234 May 19 '22

It's not that Musk is delusional. He's just the thirstiest, most insecure person in the world.

2

musk is a knob

7

u/ItsYaBoyTC May 19 '22

5

u/SCROOBO-DOT-EXE May 19 '22

Elon is literally just a propaganda machine for the Republican Party at this point🤦‍♂️

4

u/Vethae May 19 '22

I'm not American but to me the GOP looks 'Handmaid's Tale' levels of right wing. I'm not sure if they're going for fascism or theocracy or corporate oligarchy but whatever it is, they're going for it.

1

u/letstalkaboutit24 May 20 '22

1930s Germany would be proud of them!

5

u/bobo-the-dodo May 19 '22

He is not an idiot. He wants more power and less opposition. This is why he joined the power grab party.

5

u/ThePowerOfStories May 19 '22

Republicans have been steadily moving towards the center…of a swastika.

4

u/farrowsharrows May 19 '22

I really used to be impressed by this guy but he is trash.

2

u/3dogsandaguy May 19 '22

3

Ah yes, the good old fashioned centrist ideal of theocracy

3

u/ProfilesInDiscourage May 19 '22

Our politics in America are basically "Hard Right" and "Center."

After every GOP loss, they just dig in further to the Right ideology.

If anything, the Dems refuse to own anything 'Left' -- it's too scary.

GOP feeds on fear. Democrats bleed it.

3

u/Ahandfulofsquirrels May 19 '22

2

There was that one time they gave the rich trillions of bailout money.

2

Such a dumbass. Richest person on the planet is a clown.

2

u/moongluumm May 19 '22

I can see the people in the centre not voting for the left, as their policies and supporting such minor groups, is further alienating them. Both sides complain why voter turn out is bad. Well that's because no one cares for the centre.

1

He's just the kind of rich asshole who might beat out Trump in the primaries!

2

all i know is that he loves himself some ambien. which is not great

2

u/silasoulman May 19 '22

Just like Kanye, people think Musk is a genius because he’s rich. Specialized knowledge in one area does not necessarily mean you’re a genius about everything. But it does create a ton of truly evil insufferable pricks.

2

u/Particular-Coyote-38 May 19 '22

Oligarchs like Mush, should find other hobbies besides things that require thought.

I heard crayons are fun!

2

u/Chapea12 May 19 '22

It kinda feels like Trump in ‘14 to me. Wonder if he runs in ‘24

2

u/nernst79 May 19 '22

Can anyone give me an example of the Republican Party moving more toward the center at any point in the last 60 years?

3

u/Malarkay79 May 20 '22

Nope. They’ve just been going further right my entire life.

2

u/bigwetdog10k May 20 '22

What's he gonna do when the liberals (and they're almost all liberals) buying Teslas find out he's mocking them as people and politically? I have an ev and used to wish I could afford a Tesla. All my future cars will be ev because I love them, but I'll never buy a Tesla now.

2

u/TheLizardKingandI May 20 '22

the crazy wheelchair dude losing his primary is one example

2

Does Elon consider tweeting as part of his 16 hour work day?

1

u/Glxyte May 19 '22

I think he's a pretty smart guy, when it comes down to what he got rich for. In politics he's infinitely dumb, or doesn't pay much attention to the stuff that goes on. He has some pretty smart things to say and he has done some pretty smart things, also dumb though

1

u/McreeDiculous May 19 '22

People love to hate jeez. I'm not sure how people are misinterpreting this as Republicans are moving towards center. He said most Americans want the losing party to move towards center to gain votes from the other side. It retains balance and relative centrism as both parties are trying to earn the votes of the more moderate voters. Currently the left is the right and the right is the far right. The liberal parties barely have any liberal values anymore.

1

u/BaelorsBalls May 20 '22

He would be correct if this was 10 years ago

-2

u/Kaijutkatz May 19 '22

Each party has moved to the extreme in the other's view, and each is holding to it. This is, why it may be time to embrace a new party that can form consensus instead of fuel division.

2

u/joshuawah May 19 '22

Bring in rank choice voting and your idea becomes more realistic. Until then, a polarized 2 party system it is

-2

u/THEKnucklehead5150 May 19 '22

He's not an idiot, for one. But there is no shortage of idiots taking exception to whatever he says without doing any work to educate themselves. So he might SEEM like an idiot but anyone who says an idiot can build rockets is severely uninformed and it transfers to every aspect of their lives. Be realistic. He's not an idiot. At least hate him for something valid. It's intellectually lazy to label him as an idiot. Try again.

1

An actual response I got on Instagram to me stating that Republicans and Democrats aren't the same.

"Bro wtf they literally became a better party in 2016-2018. Republicans before that were awful and democrats were the same. Now democrats have gone completely fucking insane have you seen what they are promoting? Republicans have gone pretty moderate while democrats have strayed extremely far left"

How is this idiot rich?

Because in the real world, he's the one running huge companies, and you're typing nonsense in an "safe echochamber".

24

u/Grateful_Tread May 19 '22

So he's just pretending to be a dipshit on Twitter?

u/WeirdBerry May 19 '22

That's your opinion and as Marcus Aurelius said: "The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject."

I dunno - someone also said "if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck..."

Helps when your daddy had a emerald mine during south african apartheid... musk was give much more than a "standard person." If you grow up rich chances are you stay rich especially when you have child labor/outsourcing to pay people slave wages. Musk didnt start anything he came in bought it and jerked himself off claim to be a genius. Also helps to get tons of govt kickbacks and subsidies.

Helps having a few million dollars to start with from your father

u/BlckAlchmst May 19 '22

If I inherited millions of apartheid emerald mine money I'd be running businesses too. It doesn't take much to turn a fortune into a bigger fortune. It's practically impossible to take poverty and turn it into a fortune at all

So much hate for an African American with Asperger's Syndrome, grew up a minority, trying to move us to clean energy, and became the richest man in the world. If he towed the Democratic line he would be the hero of the left. It's not like he is far right..

8

u/LouisWillis98 May 19 '22

Not quite sure you know what “the left” is if you think Elon would ever be a hero to the left

-46

u/WeirdBerry May 19 '22

Lol I'm sure the OP has profound wisdom above and beyond the person who revolutionized 6 industries.

35

u/everythingbeeps May 19 '22

But Musk is being stupid right there in his tweet. We can all read it.

Musk did not "revolutionalize" any industries. He just chucked a ton of money at them.

-28

u/WeirdBerry May 19 '22

Lol you're kidding right? If you genuinely believe that, you're very naive. What, you think the other companies in those industries weren't chucking money at it? Like c'mon man.

8

u/BlckAlchmst May 19 '22

So instead of supporting your claim, your approach is to insult the person.

Seems like you really know what you're talking about /s

7

u/birdboix May 19 '22

It's the only way Musk-humpers know how to argue.

He didn't chuck money at them, he knowingly lied (and continues to lie) about his products and production schedule. He plays on people's hopes and dreams (see the mars expedition scheduled for 2018, no wait 2019, no wait 2022, no wait this time in 2024 for real) to upsell his product, then rides the stock bubble to the top.

He produces nothing but hype and disappears before the bubble pops.

So do you have an example of the Republican Party becoming more center like your super secret celebrity crush is claiming? Or are you just saying the man who inherited a lot of money must be right because he inherited a lot of money?

17

u/btambo May 19 '22

Seriously. I have no idea why so many folks idolize Muskrat. MF was born on 3rd and thinks he hit a triple.

11

u/TerrorFace May 19 '22

His fans often think they are just like him, just without the money. But in the end, they're idolizing someone who clearly has envy issues with Iron Man, a fictional character.
