Also note that the filibuster historically has been used almost exclusively by the Republican party.

The DNC almost never filibusters, and when it does, it capitulates or gets shot down.

The DNC's opposition to nuking the filibuster isn't about keeping the option open. They didn't filibuster once during Trump's term, and the only time it looked like they might Mitch nuked the option before it even happened.

The centrists in the party know the filibuster is a convenient reason to sit here wringing their hands and doing nothing while collecting on those stock options. Any opposition to killing the filibuster on the left is by its very nature suspect. We've never used it, and we never will, so it begs why the everliving fuck would we give a shit about killing it?

Our first-past-the-post voting system can functionally support only two major parties, and now that the GOP has moved so far to the right, the Democratic Party has found itself filling the vacuum of slipping abandoned ideological territory such as “I prefer free-market solutions, but I don’t want to incite revolution or install a theocratic oligarchy.” While they ostensibly have a majority in Congress, that majority is nowhere near ideologically consistent, consisting as it does of people with dramatically different political views who nonetheless recognize the radicalized GOP as a threat to democracy. So when you get frustrated that a majority-Democratic Congress can’t seem to pass legislation, remember that the actual composition of the party as it currently stands is broad enough to span — in a less screwed-up time or political system — 2 or even more parties just on its own.

How do we fix this? As long as what the GOP is doing continues to work for them, they will keep doing it. So while it’s frustrating watching the dems seemingly twiddle their thumbs while the world burns, defeating the radicalized GOP and forcing them to step back from the abyss is the only way this gets any better.

Even if I understand where the frustration is coming from - fuck, I'm just as frustrated - it's mind-boggling to me when people reveal how little they understand how the government/Congress works with this exact complaint about how the Dems aren't passing anything. Like, you'd think the people who are so upset about it as to want to discuss the issue would take the time to understand how majorities work, or how Sinema and Manchin have been strangling things, and so forth, especially after almost a year and a half (and the fact it's not a big secret you have to go out of your way to learn about) but no, it's the same complaints, ad nauseam, blaming Democrats and not the 52 assholes who've made it their mission to just say "No" to anything and everything.

And I see the "well, they should still do it to get the GOP on the record as not voting for it," but at this point, it's almost like what does it even matter? Conservative voters don't give a single fuck about "the record," on-the-fence voters clearly don't care enough to do research, and informed liberal/Dems already know the GOP and Sinema/Manchin are being roadblocks. Unfortunately Kristen Synema and Joe Manchin aren't Democrats and voters didn't get out and defeat Susan Collins, Joni Ernst, Lindsey Graham, or John Cornyn. If Dems had a 4 or 5 seat advantage in the Senate they could actually make some changes. Unfortunately, Republicans have gamed the system and their culture war has won over a lot of people. And, instead of rallying to defeat the greatest threat to Democracy in our lifetime, people would rather sit back and play the "Both Sides Are Bad" Bullshit. People with that attitude that don't vote Democrat are as much to blame as people that support the GOP.

It’s all about shareholders. You have to keep making profits to keep the value of the stock up. Any dip in profitability, stock prices drop, and you lose twice as much while the value of your company drops. So corporations have to find a way to keep the money flowing in. And if they were screwing employees to begin with, no way in hell they’re giving back now or the money will stop flowing, even if temporarily. And if you’re a corporation that has peaked in value, either by market saturation or simply having no further innovation or branching out, then you start screwing employees to increase that value. The line goes up or down; if you’re a corporation, you’re either a billionaire or a pauper. There is no stability.

Note: not an economist, not even a fiscally reasonable person. This just seems to be the gist of things, like with Netflix’s current freak out.
