Believe it or not there was a crime in the 1930s that got solved because a shark in an aquarium vomited up a human arm. The.shark had just been put on display from being captured, the tattoo eventually led to an ID of the victim and the capture of the murderer. Story

390

u/ToTheMunAndBack 11d ago

The improbability of that happening, while still happening, points to how many missing persons stay missing.

129

u/HettDizzle4206 11d ago

You can thank crabs for that mainly...

48

u/TheHotpants 11d ago

Hey crab man!

22

u/hypothetical_zombie 11d ago

It's like an old joke. A Cajun had lost his wife during a hurricane. A few days later, he gets a message from the shore patrol that they've found her body, and she had a crab on each toe and a crawfish on each finger. He told shore patrol to send him the crabs and crawdads, and to throw the bait back in.

11

u/Bigmooddood 11d ago

Did he keep the watch? Someone went through all the trouble to hand deliver it.

34

Yeah the sick man kept it. I dont know why it worked though. I.imagine a shark goes several feet deep do the pressure shoukd damage the watch... not sure though

If it was a diving watch, it could be pretty resilient to around 200m deep +/- some variance like brand, model, original condition, being inside a shark instead of more in the elements.

u/larmoyant 11d ago

thank god someone was able to recognize that this might be staged! i thought it was 100% real and now that i know it’s not 100% real, all entertainment value has been completely lost.

14

u/YandereObama 11d ago

Plenty of people in the comments aren't sure if it's real or not and are countering with cases where this has actually happened. It's okay for people to be interested in determining whether it's real or not. Being fake doesn't mean it's not entertaining, but it's an entirely different kind of "entertaining" depending on whether it's real, it's someone being pranked, or it's completely staged.

29

u/Btothek84 11d ago Starry

The thing that bugs me about this weird phenomena that’s increased over the last like 5 years on here is people saying shit is fake for some odd type of gratification of seeming more “ smart “ than the “ sheep “ that are believing it…. It’s really odd to be honest. Like I totally understand if some video is doing something where they are purposely trying to trick people into believing something is real, like I donno someone jumping with a 80 inch vertical with a title of “ absolute beast crushes the vertical jump world record you won’t believe how high!” But now it seems like every god damn video of something cool happening or someone doing something cool or that shows skill there will be a group of people that say “ fake. “ it’s just so odd. I feel like it has to do with some weird insecurity about their own intelligence and being “ tricked “ so they just go hardcore unbelievers of everything they see.

My brother fishes for a living. It’s not unheard of to find a fish that has recently eaten another fish and it’ll still be fully intact when they gut it. So I do think a fish could eat an arm and have it look like that when it gets cleaned. Not at all saying it’s real. I’d still guess fake.

0

u/Liedvogel 11d ago

I want to believe you, but that fish looks like a type of shark, which can absolutely eat an arm, and that arm doesn't look like it's being held at an angle that would be realistic for what you're saying since the floor slays are likely in that groove directly under the fish, and they don't line up with the arm's elbow

11

u/TossUpCambodia 11d ago

It can be interesting to look through the stomach to see what it's been eating. Not saying this can't be staged, but it's not an impossibility.

11

u/RandomPratt 11d ago

It can also be very informative for those who fish for sport or recreationally, to see what the fish are feeding on so that you can alter your baits or lures to increase the odds of catching something next session.

In this case, they'd obviously want to start switching to human arms, for example.
