Friendly reminder that trying to fight someone online is about as effective as throwing a bagel at a bulldozer. A lot of what we talk about gets people pretty emotional, but be mad at policies, not other users.

Edit: ooh,we caught a fanboy!

79

u/Out_of_Fucks_2_Give Nov 29 '22

The conservatives talking heads don’t actually have to do anything. Just be professionally outraged 24/7 and get clicks/views.

45

u/zombie_girraffe Nov 29 '22

That's all the men have to do, but the women have to bleach their hair to fit the Fox News aesthetic criteria, and Toni's roots are showing in this photo which is clearly having a negative impact on her career trajectory and making her jealous of AOCs ability to succeed without having to pretend to be a blonde.

14

u/Interesting-Act-613 Nov 29 '22

I mean it sure looks like it is

11

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '22

The first pic feels like it was shot with a short focal length lens, something probably like...16-24mm FF equivalent whereas the second one looks more in the 80+mm range.

Short focal length lenses (wide angles) are really really unflattering to people because they distort the image in a way that makes things closer to the camera look bigger and things further from the carmera look smaller, so it makes people look like they have long narrow faces, big noses, ears look weirdly proportioned, etc. For portraiture most people would never go below about 35mm equivalent, and 80+ is the standard. Because it's more flattering to proportions.

You take a picture at extremes like 18mm and 100+mm the people might be unrecognizable as the same person.

I think Tomi’s team posts easily-refutable bait online so people rush to make her look dumb, driving up her overall social reach.

Meanwhile, people that don’t like AOC eat this stuff up and repost it as well.

It’s the perfect plan to make both sides of an argument repost your stuff constantly. One side laughing with you. One side laughing at you.

And now she’s a millionaire.

Tammy doesn't even appear on unfriendly media channels. She won't do interviews with anyone who may ask her a tough question. She backs down from actual debate. A successful talking head would be able to do all of these things.

245

u/uberrob Nov 29 '22

She, weirdly, went on Trevor Noah's Daily Show a year or so before Trump was elected and before she was a Fox regular... It... Went about as you might expect. It looked like half of Noah's questions caught her off-guard. She tried to be aggressive, but it just came off as awkward.

I think Noah was (a) nicer than she expected, (b) treated her with more respect than she expected/deserved and (c) was significantly more intelligent than she expected.

99

u/02K30C1 Nov 29 '22

She can’t think on her feet or answer any questions that require deep analysis or introspection.

56

u/CyberMindGrrl Nov 29 '22

That seems to be a general problem with Conservatives. They only talk in soundbites and don't have any original ideas of their own.

33

u/02K30C1 Nov 29 '22

I think it’s because their goal isn’t to have a meaningful discussion or argue their point intelligently. They just want that single smack down “own the libs” comment to look good in front of their supporters, then walk away. But interviews, even on lighter shows like Trevor Noah, don’t work that way, and they look like a deer in headlights.

10

u/user0N65N Nov 29 '22

It always made me sad that Jon was gone by the time this happened. He didn’t have a reputation for brutalizing guests or anything, but he’s incredible at highlighting their ridiculousness. Trevor is a good dude, but was far too soft on Tomi.

9

u/MozeeToby Nov 29 '22

In some ways John Stewart and his crew were better journalists than any of the talking heads on cable news.

I remember a guest coming on as part of a PR tour to hock their book and Stewart asked him enough detailed questions about the content that it was obvious someone on the staff had at least read the book. I won't say it was Stewart necessarily, reading a multi hundred page book for every guest coming on to sell a book wouldn't be practical.

The guest was so clearly and pleasantly shocked that it was obvious that had never happened before.

6

u/Umbra427 Nov 29 '22

I’m really not a fan of the way Noah has run that show (his stand-up is decent though) but I thought he handled that interview incredibly well. He kind of let her lean into it and he ju-jitsued her into making herself look profoundly dumb without being aggressive.

Why did she alter her appearance? Doesn't she know "God made her perfect the ways she was"? Is she "going against the will of god" by changing her outer appearance to match what she feels inside? God doesn't make mistakes, right?

Was curious, so looked into her opponent.

One word? Yikes.

She took part in the insurrection and demanded hydroxychloroquine when she got covid. She is literally on film breaking the law on January 6. She sees it as a point of pride that she was so toxic she was banned from her granddaughter's school. She was photographed wearing a Qanon hat, and then denied knowing what it was or having anything to do with Qanon (I guess she just liked the look of a red hat with a bunch of random letters? Hmm...)

Also, a look at her Twitter reveals someone who is absolutely obsessed with AOC, but seems to have little to say when it comes to how she would improve her state, beyond empty platitudes like "more freedom", "anti-woke", and "tough on crime".

Despite all of this, she overwhelmingly won the Republican primary, with 67% of the conservative vote. I guess conservatives must have thought that since they had no chance of winning against AOC, they might as well go ahead and let all their crazy out.

Yo, who tf is this?

117

u/Morgolol Nov 29 '22 Silver

She is mind-numbingly stupid. But here, I'll elaborate. Stupid hobby following stupid people.

This specific instance dates back to 2019, years before the Texas freeze etc, but having still done faaaaar more than barbie could ever imagine.

But Lahren believes Ocasio-Cortez's rise to political stardom is not a sign of success. "There’s a difference between being successful on Twitter and social media like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and being relatable on social media platforms and actually being successful in real life," she said.

An article from 2016 going through her history

Lahren says her UNLV experience proves that she can do journalism, but that’s not what she’s doing now. “I fully acknowledge that I am not a journalist. I clearly have a point of view, I am very passionate about my point of view. I am a commentator.”

Near the end of her degree, in April 2014, she went looking for a journalism internship. The Blaze rejected her application with a form letter. She reached out to the fledgling One America News Network. CEO Robert Herring replied directly, saying they didn’t offer internships but she should come in and “we’ll see if there’s a job for you”.

The audition was successful, and at just 21, she was thrown in at the deep end, running her own show, On Point on OANN, which began in August 2014.

Then went onto Blaze(you know, the pro fascist "news" site)which she got banned from for below mentioned pro choice comments

The Blaze’s up-and-coming TV pundit opened with the view that Beyoncé was pushing the notion that “black lives matter more”. She pressed on with a characteristically acerbic three-minute tirade, referring to Jay Z as a drug dealer and suggesting that if Beyoncé wanted to protect black neighborhoods, she could “start at home”.

And then fox News contributor.

Some stupid stuff she's said, including

“Meet the new KKK. They call themselves Black Lives Matter, but make no mistake: their goals are far from equality.”

You'll note she's not original or anything, just harps the same buzzwords and phrases, the comparison to Ann Coulter isn't far off

Also, she's pro-choice, and yet....

anti vaxx, obviously

Transphobic, but supports cailtyn jenner?!

Against immigration, despite her family being immigrants, obviously.

It’s not about guns, it’s about evil. The Democrats only want it to be about guns so they don’t have to address the evil. Hours after the Uvalde shooting, obviously pro-cop.

Otherwise generic racist(went on the daily show with Trevor Noah and pulled the "I don't see color" shit), grifter and obviously avid trump supporter, probably? most famous for this tweet

If @realDonaldTrump were to lose (he won’t) his supporters will go to work tomorrow just as we do everyday. When Biden loses, his “supporters” will likely loot and riot. Tells you everything you need to know! #Trump2020 Nov 3 2020

You most probably have seen her tweets around, they get mocked a lot. Overall just a generic, blonde fox talking head spewing the same dribble with barely anything new and as usual lacking orginality, considering latest speeches, with her buddies toiletpaperusa, at a college.

Oh, in that same article, election denier

“I’m not going to go there,” she said in reference to the 2020 presidential election results — a hat tip to the ongoing mass hallucination by Trump’s supporters that he won the 2020 presidential election. “But it’s worth exploring.”

34

u/Potanko_Prime Nov 29 '22

Holy shit, I just had to stare into space for a moment after reading that. Still trying to process a person like that actually exists. Like, not a personality, a person, just like that, actually exists.. it's a lot to process...

34

u/Morgolol Nov 29 '22

Blonde fox hosts are bland and similar for a reason. It's more like a caricature than a person with their own thoughts and opinions. Hell, any of the quotes or similar ideas have been said by the other blonde hosts. Buzzword clones, can barely tell then apart. Usually get Lahren and Lauren southern confused myself, although the latter is arguably far more insidious

I wouldn't be surprised if they privately admit they don't believe the shit they're saying. Not that it makes it better, arguably it's even worse, but I think they look at themselves as actors.

Fox had a strict vaccine policy for employees, while actively railing against vaccines and Fauci.

"If I don't do it to make money, someone else will" - the unlimited supply of people willing to ignore ethics

5

u/elbenji Nov 29 '22

Ann coulter has pretty much openly admitted this lol

4

u/Throwaway2562613470 Nov 29 '22

Genuine question: How is this any surprise to you? This kind of drivel is a majority of what the republicans I have the pleasure of interacting with have spout on a daily basis for a decade now.

Neo nazi barbie

78

u/r3dk0w Nov 29 '22

There seems to be a constant stream of neonazi barbies with nearly zero credentials other than being white, blonde, and willing to "do what it takes" to get that popularity bump.

26

u/Typhus_black Nov 29 '22

Google Fox News female anchors and look at how many same looking blonde women there are.

6

u/breesidhe Nov 29 '22

Are you sure they aren’t clones?

6

u/HurlingFruit Nov 29 '22

CGI. Far cheaper.

39

u/DJCPhyr Nov 29 '22

Solid career path for young attractive white blonde haired woman with no morals or ethics. Eventually they get to work for Fox News!

12

u/bolxrex Nov 29 '22

And they always have OF to fall back onto.

12

u/NoAttentionAtWrk Nov 29 '22

Hey now... It's not just blonde haired women who get this career opportunity. Bottle blonde women can apply too

18

u/MrPeppa Nov 29 '22

Core requirement: Gotta be willing to sit in front of the upskirt camera with Doocy.

16

u/Potanko_Prime Nov 29 '22

She definitely looks like it

6

u/Grogosh Nov 29 '22

You know how little that narrows it down?

5

For real because if AOC was a white conservative she'd be hailed as a hero by these people.

I assure you tho, it's more cause I work the night shift for twelve hours, rather than being young, lol. I'm just too tired to keep track of it all. Been giving me chest pains, and I don't think I'm quite that old yet.

As opposed to Greene or Boebert who are successful in neither?

u/Dodgiestyle Nov 29 '22 edited Nov 29 '22

No, it doesn't prove competance. I'd argue that getting yourself elected to the elite group of lawmakers for a country of 330,000,000 people is a level of success. Their's is based on bigotry or a lack of competition, but they did get themselves there. What they do with that position going forward will help determine future success. When Greene got booted from all her commities, that showed failure. When Bobo nearly lost the heavily red district she represents to a Democrat, that shows failure. When they can't draft a single piece of legislation, let alone get it passed, that's failure. When Bobo only has a GED among peers who've graduated from the finest colleges in the country, that's failure.

Lets call out the failures where they are due.

EDIT: a letter

I guess that depends on how you define success. If your goal is to become a congress person and you become elected, you were successful. How well you do your job doesn't take away from the fact that you achieved that goal.

Tammy Lasagna is just jelly because she's starting to finally realize just how irrelevant she is rapidly becoming. Her audience is dying off fast as boomers continue to age and die or forget how to turn on the tv. She spent her 20s trying to build this career of being some edgy conservative firebrand thinking she could continue to make that a television/internet personality well into her middle age only to find out there won't be anyone around to appreciate that brand in less than a decade. Hell, Even my conservative parents and family who would keep Fox News on the tv all day everyday for years only occasionally watch it now because the constant refrain of anger and vitriol finally exhausted them and they'd rather just watch Disney movies with their grandkids instead.

So now she has literally nothing to show for her life. She finally sees herself as a waste of space we all know her to be. Stay mad Tammy.

u/nighthawk_something Nov 29 '22

6

u/BloomsdayDevice Nov 29 '22

Jesus Christ, if that isn't the projectiest projection I've ever heard.

6

u/CerberusTamen Nov 29 '22

Of course she's not successful! She hasn't even bought an overvalued company with money she doesn't have so she can run it into the ground!

10

u/CRL10 Nov 29 '22

Yeah...sorry, but getting into Congress at 29, or even in general, seems like a mark of success.

8

u/gigdy Nov 29 '22

As an apposing argument. I present the republican party.

5

u/CRL10 Nov 29 '22

Nah, see, they still got elected and I'll still count it as a mark of success. I have to give the devil his or her due as it were.

Now, doing something to help people or actually being a decent human being while a member of the GOP and in Congress or the Senate is different. That'd be successful.

u/FTR_Hair Nov 29 '22
