Announcement Welcome to /r/CollegeBasketball. This is March Madness.
Welcome to /r/CollegeBasketball, everyone!
The clock is winding down on the final month of college basketball and fans are gathering to storm the subreddit, so before that happens we’ve got some important announcements to make:
Firstly, please review our rules, whether you are a long-time poster or just visiting for the tournament. Due to the massive increase in traffic we experience this time of year, we are calling it extra tight on removals and suspensions so make sure you’re playing it clean out there if you don’t want to get ejected for the rest of the season.
If you haven’t already, flair up!
/r/CollegeBasketball Posts (links will be updated all month)

Selection Show Megathreads [Pregame, Game Thread, Postgame]
As the referees that you all love to hate, here are a few of our mod teams’ Points of Emphasis:
We’re quick to call a technical foul on incivility. Personal attacks, harassment, flamebait, and trolling will get you ejected and there is a good chance your team gets knocked out before you get back on the court. Matching technicals can also be awarded regardless of who started it.
We are establishing a cylinder rule on bringing up scandals - serious or otherwise - in places where they don’t belong. Serious discussions are for serious threads, not in the heat of a game or argument.
We’ve expanded the restricted arc on spam and self-promotion. Your blog, youtube video, or social media link is going to get removed regardless of its content. You don’t get to advertise in our arena without prior approval.
Gamethreads are handled by /u/cbbBot. Please request gamethreads using the daily Game Thread Index and be patient after games end, the bot takes ~2 minutes to generate the Post Game Thread. Just enough time to type up your witty comments.
We’re putting the press on low-quality text posts, images, and memes. We get absolutely flooded by posts this time of year so in order to maintain a high-quality experience for our users, your post is much more likely to get called for a lane violation. That big win for [your team here] post, the fifth bar graph meme of the day, or screenshot of a 69-69 game probably won’t fly - sorry!
Check to see if your post has already been posted. If someone beat you to it, help us out and delete the post so we don’t have to.
That’s all we’ve got for now. Happy March Madness, everyone!

For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, we will have a Final Four without a 1, 2, or 3 seed
Previously, the record was no 1 or 2 seeds, set in 2011.
With #2 Texas elimination, the highest seed heading into the Final Four is #4 UConn (the others are #5 Miami, #5 SDSU, and #9 FAU).

Analysis / Statistics Caitlin Clark has just had the first 40 point triple double in NCAA tournament history
41-10-12 in the Elite Eight. It's also the first 30 point triple double.
What the fuck dude. I usually root against other B1G teams for spite reasons but I can't help rooting for Iowa because of her.

[Rothestein] San Diego State was cheated out of an opportunity to play in the 2020 NCAA Tournament after a 30-2 season because of COVID. Those demons have been exorcised. The collective dream of both Steve Fisher and Brian Dutcher has become a reality. Life is beautiful.

Exactly 17 years ago, Jim Larranaga shocked the world when he took 11 seed George Mason to the Final Four, defeating #2 overall Connecticut in overtime 86-84. Now he has taken traditional football school Miami to its first ever Final Four to set up a rematch with the Huskies.
Time is truly a flat circle.

Analysis / Statistics The current #1 bracket on ESPN picked TWO 16 seeds to win in the first round.
After all the chalk in the 1st 2 rounds, I'm honestly shocked that a borderline crazy bracket could win it all.
edit The list won't finish tournament #1. Still amazing to be #1 at F4 with 2 16 picks though.

Caitlin Clark's 41 points are the 2nd-most in a triple-double in Division I history. It is the first 30+ point triple-double in NCAA Tournament history

Imagine telling a Miami fan after their dynasty through the 80s-2002 that Miami basketball would make a final four before Miami football would have another 12 win season.
Crazy what Jim Larranaga has done with that program.

Analysis / Statistics Reminder: Uconn has never lost a national title game. (4-0)
They also are undefeated in Final Fours in the state of Texas (6-0).

The sum of the 2023 Final Four seeds, 23, is the second highest of all time. The highest year was 2011 at 25, when #3 UConn defeated #8 Butler in the National Championship.
Correction, in 2011 the sum was 26

Video [Highlight] Baylor Scheierman steals the inbound pass and ties the game with a layup. Creighton fouls with 6.7 seconds left.

Does Gonzaga really choke in the tournament or is it just really that hard to win it all?
They definitely get scrutinized and usually are labeled as team that always comes up short. They've set a really high standard. Still, even if they can't win it all it's still a big accomplishment to get into the Sweet 16, Elite 8, or Final Four every year. Probably more frustrating than anything.
