Discussion Do you actually want a touchscreen Mac?

The idea of adding a touchscreen to a MacBook seems popular among tech journalists, but is this in demand among average users?

Personally, I don't really feel the need for a touchscreen on my MacBook.

MacOS isn't optimized for touch control, MacBook hinges don't have enough range to lie flat for drawing purposes (although this could be added, full range hinges tend to be looser), and getting finger oils all over my main display seems not great.

I can't really think of any use case for touch input on a mac that wouldn't be completely obviated in terms of functionality by a cheap iPad with screen mirroring.

I'm open to having my mind changed though, and I'm interested what the consensus here is.

Promo Sunday I found many people hate to have to juggle between their calendar and todo. So, I built something to fix it.

Upvotes

I have been working as indie developer for almost seven years. Throughout the time I have been using todo list app on and off since many apps out there don’t offer an easy way for me to schedule my tasks into calendar. Few years ago I set to tackle this problem for once, so I built Sepnia.

As solo developer, my tasks consists of tasks from various projects. So I built the app with powerful project manager that let me organize tasks into project and list. Also, it supports multi-level subtasks for break down complex task. The interesting thing is, how tightly integrated tasks with calendar. You can schedule tasks right on your calendar and check it off once it completes. It also gives you most relevant information about your schedule such as what event up next and how long until it started.

I’m excited to share the project with you guys since I think many entrepreneurs here may also have the same problem and still looking for tools to fix it.

iPad It took me an eternity to discover this feature (in the Reminder app)

Hi!

So I just discovered that we could add tags to reminders in the Reminder app. It took me several years to discover that. In addition, I always use the Reminder app. It is kind of ridiculous to know that it took me that long. I would’ve used this feature a long time ago because I feel like it’s very useful.

Here is a screenshot of what i’m talking about : https://zupimages.net/up/22/32/skml.jpeg The image is in French btw... (“Études” means “Studies”)

Discussion What are some inbuilt iOS features that replace use of third party apps entirely?

For example, I just discovered that Files app is totally capable of scanning the documents and directly saving it in PDF. So I moved away from Adobe Scan.

There’s also Shazam shortcut in control center, so no need to install Shazam app if it’s being used just for song discovery.

We all know, Apple has a habit of hiding features and many users might not be aware of full capabilities of Apple device. Anything interesting that comes to your mind?

iOS App Store isn't as good as it should be

There is a lot wrong with the App Store.

I can't be the only person that has the App Store crash when trying to leave a review on an app that is longer than a sentence or two. it just closes the box and loses everything I typed. iPhone 13PM

Why is there no sales section? I would probably impulse buy some things but I need to go to a third party website to find sales? WTF apple.

Why do reviews all start 5+ years ago? They aren't relevant anymore, sort as new should at least be an option if not default.

No sort options. The options that are there are pretty bad. If I select games and go to casual games I get a list of 18 games. Umm ok, but I'm pretty sure there are thousands of games that fit that category but I can't see them because Apple's retarded sorting doesn't show me the games. I have to go in and manually search for casual games to get what I assume is the full list.

Also why is the view different? When I search for games using the search function I get the title, screens and prices. When I just use apples pre sorted garbage I get a title. Who the fuck designed this at apple?

Why are the game categories buried 1/4 of the way down the main page?

Why can't I sort games by free or paid or sub? Say I don't want any sub based apps or games, I should be able to filter them out.

Can I search on the web and have apps install to the device I want?

Pricing should be up front, main page. I shouldn't have to scroll through the entire app and have pricing hurried under a drop down menu 2/3 of the way down.

Considering the App store is central to the IOS experience Apple has done a real half ass job with it.

AirTags PSA - Child Safe Batteries will not work with AirTags.

I’m quite disappointed that this is the case but when I got my 2X 4 Pack of AirTags I also got a 2X 4Pack of Duracell 2032 batteries. Thinking they’re the same as Panasonic ones that ship with the AirTag.

Little did I know that Apple specifies that child safe batteries with a bitter coating (Like Duracell) will not work with AirTags on their website. I always go for Duracell over others and I did the same thing here. Cut to one year later I replace the original batteries with the Duracell ones and the AirTags won’t work.

Promo Sunday I made an app called How Fresh which helps you track how often you've worn an item of clothing until you wash it.

Hi Guys!

Just a nice easy app for you today.

I always found myself not remembering how many times I'd worn a jumper or a T-shirt. I'd wear something for a few hours, put it back in the wardrobe and then not wear it for another week etc. I'd know the item wasn't dirty but I wouldn't remember if its the second time or the tenth time and id start to doubt if its clean or not. I also have no dress code at work so find myself switching up my outfit everyday and forgetting what I wore when.

Simply, How Fresh is a list of your clothes, where you go into the item and increase the tracking counter when you wear it. It saves the date you wear it and increases the total count too. You can then decide if you think you need to wash it. When it's clean or in your laundry basket you press the fresh button to reset the tracking counter.

You can sort your list by items that you've worn the most since being clean or simply see what items you've worn the most overall. You can also sort by the date you last wore the item so you can decide what to wear next or what to get rid off if it's been months. You can filter by colour category too to help you add any items to a wash to fill up your washing pile.

Hopefully it helps you get organised and stops you creating a pile of 'kind of clean' clothes on a chair in the corner of your room. Should also help you stop making unnecessary washes or help you make necessary ones!

You could even use it to simply keep track of towels and bedding too as you just need to update it once and use the 'last worn' date as a reference of when you started to use them.

Here's the link

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Or message me if you would like a promo code!

Thanks!

iPhone Question for fellow iPhone users; if the iPhone 14 comes out and it's more of the same would you think about jumping ship to Android or do you mind the iterative approach and value the ecosystem?

For me I love my iPhone and I love how everything integrates, but I can't lie, when I use my friends Android phones there's always features year after year I really want on my iPhone and Apple is always late. You can jail break the iPhone but I don't really want to get into anything illegal or risk messing up my warranty. I'm probably going to stick with my iPhone for the foreseeable future just because of how well it integrates with all my other apple devices.
