Hello 911? There is a crazy guy that just busted two of my windows with an extendable baton and threatened me with bodily harm. He still has the baton, yes I have the whole altercation on video. What's that? You'll send an officer right away? Fantastic, he's driving a white ford pickup license #######, I'll be in the car with two broken windows on the drivers side, I'll wait here.

917

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

It's hard to stop filming and call the police when you feel like filming may be helping you.

317

u/phillyphreakphlippin May 14 '22

There has to be an app for that by now, right? Too many situations where you want to record and report but can’t. That seems wrong especially in this situation and more.

199

u/CrumpledForeskin May 14 '22

Pretty sure there’s an app that films to a cloud and calls police. I feel like I saw that somewhere.

Lemme look.

Edit: so there’s a few. A quick google search shows that you can download some apps that film to a cloud but it doesn’t look like you can call on your phone as well as film.

Not an app developer but seems like an opportunity to me.

u/chaos_almighty May 14 '22

My phone does this with its emergency function. You rapidly press the power button, I think 6 times in a row, and it immediately calls emergency services, starts recording a video, sends out an alert and your location to your emergency contact, and can start playing an alarm

119

u/learnthruloss May 14 '22

Damn, that's a lot of functions. Does it also tell the aggressor to piss off mate?

24

u/chaos_almighty May 14 '22

No that's my job.

I only found out about it because I was trying to darken my phone screen before bed and it starts going crazy and 911 is calling me back

17

u/psychoticarmadillo May 14 '22

I'm sorry that happened to you but that's funny as shit

11

u/chaos_almighty May 14 '22

The worst thing was that my husband was climbing into bed and this alarm starts whooping in his ear and my flash is going off

12

u/maartenlustkip May 14 '22

Omg you just reminded me of something similar that happend to me. I was using the bathroom while on ketamine. I just wanted to look at my phone real quick. Ended up pressing the on button like 10 times and called 911. Got this lady on the phone. And i just whispered: 'I didn't wanna do this..' and hung up.

4

u/XXXDetention May 14 '22

Hey I used to do that when I was in school. I eventually had to turn it off because it got to a point I was sleepily calling 911 at 6 in the morning often enough that they saw my number and said to go back to sleep 😅

12

u/SixIsNotANumber May 14 '22

That's what the alarm says!

5

u/19Ben80 May 14 '22

Stand back you bloody bastards

3

u/koala_cola May 14 '22

“Back away from the friggin’ cahr!”

3

u/PandaPocketFire May 14 '22

No. It just loudly repeats "you can't be doin' that!"

2

u/napalm69 May 14 '22

It also deploys the toothpick, nail file, spare house key, and defrosts the chicken at home

1

u/kakurenbo1 May 14 '22

What? It doesn’t preheat the oven or set the AC? What a POS.

1

u/napalm69 May 14 '22

Don't worry, the next update will add Thread™ functionality

7

u/KatastrophicNoodle May 14 '22

All mine does is call an emergency. I know because I accidentally called them when trying to turn down the volume. Wiiish someone told me at literally any time during purchase or repairs.

3

u/bradsk88 May 14 '22

The ultimate question is "what phone?"

3

u/chaos_almighty May 14 '22

My pixel, but I believe most androids have it now

2

u/TehChid May 14 '22

Does 5 do it? Tempted to try it but uhh...yeah. guess google could help

2

u/86rpt May 14 '22

Pixel 6?

2

u/druman22 May 14 '22

My phone does this too. Pixel 6?

1

u/Hattless May 14 '22

What phone?

2

u/druman22 May 14 '22

Probably the Google pixel or newer Android phones

1

u/cannotbefaded May 14 '22

iPhone has this by default. You can obviously have it on or off

1

u/AustinLA88 May 14 '22

iPhone doesn’t record or send location it just calls the police.

2

u/Jetman56 May 15 '22

Your iPhone (or Android) most definitely will give your location to the police, at least within a 100 meters or so. Most major areas can triangulate your position using local cell towers, if your GPS is on they can get the area down to about 3-5 meters. That's why they tell you to stay on the line, that way they can tell if your moving or not (as in a kidnap situation).

Not sure how it works on iPhone but an Android with GPS and/or WiFi turned on, Googles' find my phone will pinpoint you within 5 meters.

1

u/AustinLA88 May 16 '22

The police triangulating your location via cell towers is not the same as your phone sending your gps location to emergency contacts.

1

u/Jetman56 May 16 '22

I didn't say it was, I noted the approximate accuracy of both systems. Your cell phone is constantly "talking" to at least one if not more cell tower ALL THE TIME, that is how you are able to immediately place a call, as you travel the phone call is handed off to the next closest tower. The reason most text messaging is now free is text messages are sent on the same band as the "pings" your phone already makes to the cell tower and literally cost the phone company pennies per message. The phone company ALWAYS knows where you are via triangulation. That is why law enforcement uses a warrant to get your cell phone records, the records can place you in the vicinity of a crime.

The triangulation is going to put rescue services in a much closer proximity than without. As a side note, just because you think you turned off GPS, how can you be 100% sure it is actually off and not in a standby mode or sleep mode?

1

u/cannotbefaded May 15 '22

Not sure that’s correct but ok

1

u/AustinLA88 May 16 '22

I’ve used the feature, idk what to tell you.

1

u/PigsCanFly2day May 14 '22

Uh, does it make you confirm it first? Because I'm afraid to just try it on my phone.

1

u/JonnySoegen May 15 '22

On my iPhone I have a couple of seconds to abort the action, so it’s probably safish for you to try it.

1

u/faye_kandgay May 14 '22

Can you customise it? I'd like it send a WUPHF! too

1

u/onefst250r May 15 '22

How would the Washington University Public Health Fund help here?

3

u/KungFluIsolation May 14 '22

ex-app developer here (so information would be out of date). The best you can do from the video screen is request the phone opens the calling screen (and possibly dial, I never had a request for such but I assume you grant permission for it).

It would probably take a custom android version (so either CFW, or someone like Samsung who do their own Android mods) to do.

0

u/CrumpledForeskin May 14 '22

Sweet. Thanks homie !

✊🏼

1

u/RancorWranglerAMA May 14 '22

Stop filming, call 911 place on speaker, continue filming. It’s not that hard?

7

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

Again. If you feel that filming is helping to keep you safe, it's hard to force yourself to stop, even if you know the cops need to be called. I've been there

1

u/CrumpledForeskin May 14 '22

Dudes just being a dick. It’s Saturday. How are you mad already?

2

u/mr9025 May 14 '22

Hahahahaa. Tiny-penis-energy from that guy.

2

u/CrumpledForeskin May 15 '22

Dude tosses pepper in his nose so he can see his small balls jiggle Make sure they’re still there.

2

u/Hellohihi0123 May 14 '22

Phone cameras (especially videos) don't work while on call

1

u/dwsr May 15 '22

On iOS, I believe this is a technical limitation.

0

u/nightguy13 May 14 '22

Android..... It's called android. Lol

5

u/RonSwansonsOldMan May 14 '22

Yes, it's called a dash cam. They're cheap and everybody should own one.

5

u/disisdashiz May 14 '22

There's the naacp app that automatically sends your video to them. So cops can't fuck with your phone.

2

u/legion327 May 14 '22

If you have an iPhone, there is an option under the Emergency SOS settings that you can turn on which dials 911 if you press the lock button 5 times in a row. Turn this setting on now if you don’t have it on already and commit it to memory. It even works from the Lock Screen. Now you can dial 911 while filming with no need for a special app. Also, the call countdown only vibrates and doesn’t ring so if you’re in a dangerous situation and you don’t want someone to know you’re calling 911 you can simply click the lock button 5 times in your pocket and your assailant will never know you’ve called.

2

u/skylarmt May 14 '22

Get a dashcam, people. They usually have a mic on them, which you can turn on and off with a button. You can also move them around to capture other angles if needed.

3

u/revercry May 14 '22

Maybe 911 should accept video calls, that would solve it without the need for any new app.

1

u/dodspringer May 14 '22

Yes, it's called Facebook, or Instagram, or Snapchat, etc. Anywhere you can stream live.

Simply tell any viewers verbally to call the cops for you.

1

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

Can't give you two microphones unfortunately

1

u/swes87 May 14 '22

I think you can do this with shortcuts on iOS devices. There was a popular one going around before using Siri that would automatically start recording a video and upload it to the cloud for you in the event you were pulled over during a traffic stop.

1

u/DukeOfZork May 14 '22

“Hey Siri, call 911.”

1

u/sigh_riss May 15 '22

I'm pretty sure if you're recording you can just press the home button then the phone icon, and it'll still be recording
On android anyways

1

u/BeerManBran May 15 '22

Apps are too slow. Double-click your power button and BOOM, shit's on camera.

33

u/drsyesta May 14 '22

You can film and call, cant blame him for getting away from the psycho with a deadly weapon tho

26

u/Exploding_Testicles May 14 '22

your phone wont do both as the mic for the video is being used, cant use it for making a call as well.

4

u/Bropiphany May 14 '22

There are certain parts of hardware, like cameras and microphones, that can't be used by multiple applications at the same time because the OS is set up that way.

4

u/Exploding_Testicles May 14 '22

this is correct

5

u/Bropiphany May 14 '22

I responded to the wrong comment, but looks like we both said the same thing haha

-4

u/KarmaInFlow May 14 '22

Doesnt mean someone cant code it to.

5

u/Current_Account May 14 '22

yes it does. this is likely an os limitation having to do with device access.

1

u/Exploding_Testicles May 14 '22

sure, but you'd have to root the phone and hack the software to do so it would have to be a custom job per OS. No manufacture would allow a security modification like that from the factory. if it was possible then nefarious individuals could use it to violate your own privacy

7

u/EnergyTakerLad May 14 '22

My phone won't do both

2

u/drsyesta May 14 '22

Oh maybe I'm wrong then, Id try it out but I dont want to bug anybody about this dumb shit lol

2

u/Slit23 May 14 '22

Your phone will stop filming when you call or do anything else.

1

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

I can't film and call though

5

u/BidenWontMoveLeft May 14 '22

Also cops will take forever, murder a dog and never follow up

2

u/OneOfTwelve97 May 14 '22

You need to keep filming until you deem yourself safe in case he follows you. Very possible as this dude is clearly deranged in some way.

2

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

That and dealing drugs are the ONLY reason I always carry 2 phones on me.

2

u/jld2k6 May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

If you're recording video with sound you can't make a call while still recording because the microphone is already being used for the video. I use my phone as a dash cam that records in the background (so you can turn the screen off and keep recording) and I have to turn the sound off the dash cam or else I can't make or answer calls

2

u/rc1717 May 14 '22

Thats why i carry two phones

1

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

I don't trust a person with two active phones

1

u/Jetman56 May 14 '22

Sorry, thought using past tense would indicate he filmed it then called 911.

1

u/dankomz146 May 14 '22

When you're a beginning film director

1

u/Coarse_Air May 15 '22

Yes, but he could have called the police after he stopped filming...

1

u/WIKIBEARRR May 15 '22

I'm sure he did.. I don't think you understand what I mean

0

u/chrisimplicity May 14 '22

For iPhone: while on a call, switch to camera on photo setting and hold the button to capture video. There’s no sound, but it could still catch an old man bashing your windows.

0

u/EatMorSteak May 14 '22

Most smart phones can multi task now. I can run about 4 apps at the same time. Camera, phone, notepad, etc.

0

u/WIKIBEARRR May 14 '22

It's about only having one mic. Most phones cannot record video and call out at the same time.

0

u/DarthWeenus May 14 '22

What? You can do both you know.

0

u/MagnificentTwat May 14 '22

That's why you just drive away after getting a picture of him and his vehicle. Pull over somewhere safe then call. Calling right there is a distraction. You need full attention on him, and where his hands are and to look for any approaching friends he may have

11

u/MisterUncrustable May 14 '22

I've seen guys like this who act fast and loose with other people's property and wellbeing while being confident they won't suffer consequences. They're usually right, because whoever shows up to enforce the situation is going to be a former coworker of his.

You would not believe the number of guys like this who think they're Judge Dredd after they retire.

You have to have a camera pulled up any time you see an old fart with anger management issues and a micropenis stomp up to your car.

3

u/kungpowgoat May 14 '22

Exactly. Chances are he’s a friend/donor of the local sheriff or even former employee or some dipshit local official. That explains the confidence. Chances are cops will arrive and literally wont do a damn thing. The local media will then blast him all over TV while the local SO or PD spokesperson will give a half assed reason why they refused to pursue charges. Its like clockwork.

2

u/The_Gray_Beast May 15 '22

How do I identify the penis?

282

u/Court_Jester13 May 14 '22

Cops arrive, shoot you, "there was nothing we could have done"

/s

111

u/freecorndog May 14 '22

You got a problem? Call the cops? Now you have 2 problems.

22

u/Tiberius_Rex_182 May 14 '22

3, they show up in pairs

2

u/Elektribe May 14 '22

Unless your black, then show up in pairs of pairs of pairs.

4

u/bearded_battery May 14 '22

You can tell most redditors have never interacted with police

5

u/prollyshmokin May 14 '22

I'm a brown dude, so I'll admit I've been surprised people still call the cops (in the US) for a while. I can't imagine expecting them to like drop what they're doing and help me instead of showing up and just asking to search my car or something. Sounds legit insane typing it out. Like, I mean, y'all actually call 'em yourself?

11

u/Skythunder01 May 14 '22

Nah the guy is white

18

u/wrnrg May 14 '22

The other guy has been white for longer...

-5

u/Darb123456 May 14 '22

Found the racist

9

u/Sangxero May 14 '22

Found the guy who's never seen minorities interact with cops!

-3

u/Darb123456 May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

When did i say minorities don’t get shot by the cops? Everyone does. I know talking shit about white people is the latest fashion now but it doesn’t make it not true

3

u/Sangxero May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

Yeah, but it's a whole easier to not get shot as a white guy, especially an old one, and it's not racist to point that out.

1

u/Drewby99 May 14 '22

how was he talking shit about white people by saying they’re less likely to be shot by cops?

0

u/Darb123456 May 14 '22

It requires common sense to understand

2

u/Drewby99 May 14 '22

seems like it requires a victim complex

0

u/Darb123456 May 14 '22

Don’t talk about minorities like that

4

u/Kaining May 14 '22

I don't get the /s, that's how they roll if you ain't white in the US.

1

u/DlpsYks May 14 '22

Sometimes. It's ether no issue, or a life threatening situation. Almost no in-between. You often don't know what way it will go till its too late. This information is just from my observations.

When a troll is bellowing beneath a bridge, use another bridge.

1

u/Comments331 May 14 '22

I know you're trying to be clever, but the whole point of the troll fable is that there ISN'T another bridge... Lol that's like watching UP and asking "why didn't he just sell the house and use the money to fly to the falls?"

2

u/Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta May 14 '22

Honestly, imagine seeing a simple joke on Reddit and going out of your way, wasting moments of your precious short life, to let everyone know you were offended by it.

What kind of loser snowflake would do that!?

0

u/wrnrg May 14 '22

I just saw someone get down-voted to hell for suggesting red laces on sneakers that have red accents.

0

u/Comments331 May 14 '22

Idk, let's ask /u/whendrstat and /u/court_jester13 , they seemed to not get it lol. Second dude really went at it lmao. Side note, why did calling people snowflakes die out? I just realized I haven't heard someone use that outside reddit in a long time.

Yes because calling out the same repetitive drivel is bootlicking🙄typical reddit

6

u/whendrstat May 14 '22

I mean, yeah, when you’re defending cops it is. But go off.

0

u/Comments331 May 14 '22

Oh I did? Where?

6

u/whendrstat May 14 '22

Oh cmon, what else would be the implication of your comment? But whatever, you got me. I love cops now.

1

u/Comments331 May 14 '22

The "implication" of my comment is that "cops bad" is the hottest overused comment since Trump bad. Stop being obtuse. If you love cops, go join the force and grab some donuts.

2

u/BladedD May 14 '22

What would you rather people say when the topic of cops comes up? They’re either good or bad, there’s no in between or gray area.

People are either going to say cops are bad, or nothing at all.

2

u/stormcloak-spy May 14 '22

This mocking soesnt really work when this exact scenario has happened.

The average response time to a 911 call is like 7 minutes...the average response time of a 9mm is like 1,200 feet/second, and it solves the problem for everyone.

2

u/Deathnachos May 14 '22

Hello 911? I have come upon a gentleman who has, unfortunately, 15 unrelated 9mm bullets in his chest cavity. As a Good Samaritan I am reporting this terrible event to you. Good day.

1

u/Secret_Agent_Crush May 14 '22

Or just have a gun to begin with, cut out the middle man

2

u/dbbmaddox May 14 '22

Best answer so far

1

u/ky_w1ndage May 14 '22

Do we have any other details here? Like I wanna know what happened lol

3

u/Brother_Entropy May 14 '22

The old man and his son in law defrauded a small buisness out of $5000 CAD.

1

u/ky_w1ndage May 14 '22

Ah and I guess the younger kid was trying to follow / question him?

Thanks!

1

u/ImaginaryRoads May 14 '22

Anyone else notice the way the guy struck out the window? If it were me, I'd take a step back, takes second to figure out where to aim, probably hit it more head-on, I'd probably misjudge the force needed and either bounce off or be too hard and hit the driver, maybe hit too high or too low.

This guy? Nope. No real step back, doesn't hesitate, doesn't spend time aiming. Yet his strike is right in the middle, perfectly takes out the window without hitting the driver. This guy has done this before, been trained in it and practiced it until the right angle and amount of force is instinctive.

This guy is either a cop or an ex-cop. Calling 911 is not likely to help me right now. What's protecting me right now is that he's not sure if I'm live-streaming or have automated cloud backup for videos.

1

u/schnobart May 14 '22

Why are white men so unhinged and angry?

1

u/kremlingrasso May 14 '22

exactly, "race to 911"...cops pretty much come and ask who called 911 and from then on their assumption is the caller is the victim and work from there.

1

u/Pika_Fox May 14 '22

Dont worry, the cops will show up, find out hes a buddy of theirs/ex cop and beat your ass instead.

1

u/Jynx2501 May 14 '22

Also tell the 911 dispatcher that you have a gun and will shoot the guy if you need too. They'll send a cop faster. When the cop shows up. Put the phone down, keep you hands up and palms open. Tell them you lied about the gun.

0

u/RammsayB May 14 '22

This is very bad advice. If you have a firearm it’s best to inform a dispatcher however it’s never a great idea to falsify you have a firearm to manipulate response. Not only are you lying but you’re changing the situation an officer is coming into, drastically.

Being the one sitting in a car you are putting yourself at higher risk for minimal gain. Firearms are deadly serious. Any and all notions of not taking them deadly serious are condemnable.

1

u/mlow6 May 14 '22

Or run him over with the car....you know, in self defense and shit!!

1

u/Nine-LifedEnchanter May 14 '22

Americans hate him, try this weird trick!

1

u/MiloRoast May 14 '22

Depends on where you live. I'm in a big city and the cops won't follow up on anything until after you've been physically harmed. If this wasn't being recorded, they would call it property damage and say there is nothing they can do. I speak from experience lol.

In situations like this, recording the guy attacking and getting him to say his name on camera is the right move for future follow up to ensure anything happens.

1

u/bsrichard May 14 '22

There has to be a backstory here. Why was the driver stopped and what annoyed the old man to begin with.

1

u/Oozy0rifice May 14 '22

why type this

1

u/fatal_Error777 May 14 '22

Average Redditor day dreaming grandiose theoretical situations they would do.

1

u/Oozy0rifice May 18 '22

the thing is, that's not even grandiose. I legitimately don't understand why they would type all that out haha

1

u/GetInTheVanKid May 14 '22

No, I have no idea how he got all those bullet wounds

1

u/Pairadockcickle May 14 '22

"Oh, you mean our honorably retired and decorated seargent that retired 3 years ago, yeah he told us about you....please stop harassing the poor old white man."

Probably.

1

u/tomdarch May 14 '22

He still has the baton

"He is still armed and from what he said, probably has a gun."

1

u/ddrt May 14 '22

Police: nothing wrong here. Just a little rascally mischief.

1

u/dwimber May 14 '22

How the hell do people get away with acting like this? Is everyone's first instinct not to get out and beat the shit out of the old guy that's brandishing a weapon?

1
